We've been talking a lot about DIY holiday decorations but not very much about store bought decorations. Of course DIY is a little more fun, but not everyone has the time to commit to do it yourself projects and that's certainly understandable.
There's nothing wrong with purchasing holiday decorations, after all, there are more than enough to go around in the stores. There was a time when store bought decorations seemed to all look alike and be a little too traditional for the modern household.
Not only are there an abundance of modern holiday decorations, they're rather inexpensive too! Here are some of our favorites.
• Modern Christmas Tree Decor, $24.00 at Etsy
• Double Glass Ornaments, $9.00 at West Elm
• Pure Universe Origami Ornaments, $20.00 at Etsy
• Wispy Tree, $24.00 at Anthropologie
• Recycled Paper Bicycle Ornaments, $6.32 at Crate and Barrel

I would much rather purchase a decoration than make it, but sometimes (okay, most the time,) I have an image in my head and can't find anything close or reasonably priced in a store. That exact scenario led to my latest DIY project. I need to hire a crafter to make things for me!!
My project - clean-lined giant decorative bow
I've been collecting Moravian stars, similar pointy satellite designs, and snowflakes for years, a few new ones each year. Now my tree is mostly those, and I love it! I still tuck in colored balls for background color and certain "random" ornaments with meaning or that I just like, but having a theme both amuses me and looks pretty wonderful assembled. It also tends to give me mostly white, crystal, silver and sparkly glitter in cool colors as a colorway, which I like, too.
Finding a few new theme ornaments every year is a tradition that lets you develop a gorgeous tree over time. I think most of my ornaments cost on average about $5 -- I could NEVER do a whole tree like that at once. But a couple around Thanksgiving when the sales start up, and maybe one or two a week after that I can do... In the early days, I used a lot more inexpensive standard balls as filler. Now I don't need those so much.
Just a thought...
