Some helpful information from MaisonLuxe blog: To everyone who is a Domino subscriber, fear not, you can call Condé Nast and let them know which magazine you want to switch to from their list of (so far) available magazines. If you don't call, you will automatically get Architectural Digest (horrors!!). So, yeah...it's worth calling!
It's important to note that the list is NOT up to date &mdash the site still lists Home & Garden as an option! BUT we just made the switch to Gourmet and found it super-quick and easy — painless, even! Click through to MaisonLuxe for the information.
UPDATE: For the smoothest transaction, call the number of the magazine you wish to switch to, at the automated prompt, ask to speak to the operator and tell them you want to transfer your domino subscription.
What will you switch YOUR domino subscription to? Tell us in the comments...

I did Gourmet, too! It was super easy. Took less than 5 minutes. No fuss.
Thanks for this list. I REALLY didn't want to get Architectural Digest!!!! I've chosen Cookie. I decided to pick a magazine that I would probably not ordinarily subscribe to, for something different. It was a hard decision though.
Sooo, did anybody else find it really strange that the very last copy of Domino was FILLED with "sign up for Domino" cards???
Say, what?
kdear - no, there is about a two-month lead time on printing monthly magazines....that issue was sent to the printer before it was announced it would be their last.
Oh thanks for the link! I was wondering what was going to happen with my subscription.
Wow! Thanks... you saved me!
Thanks so much! I changed to Vanity Fair.
I agree with Kdear; it is very strange...
I'm also not very happy with any of the given replacement options...I will sure miss Domino!
Maybe i should just grieve and move on like Becky from design public suggested:

Thanks for this post. So helpful. I chose Vogue for sheer eye candy. It's still no substitute for Domino though.
Why is House and Garden on the list?
Hi!
(Not really much to say but commenting so I can come back to this from my profile as AT has no bookmarking feature for favorite posts.)
What happened to "O at Home"? Did it fold or is that just a rumor?
O at Home was a Hearst title - not Conde Nast. It folded in November.
Kathryn, O at home is gone!
i have to say O was really an awsome mag. it featured a lot of well priced decor and furnishings, and pretty stories.
IMO, it was even more informative than Domino; just a different style.
and i really loved O at Home too. i got pretty upset about it folding cas Oprah could aford to keep it up if she wanted too...
Domino and O were my 2 favorites :[
I'll be switching to Vanity Fair, ANYTHING but AD!!
i understand the lead time on mags but I, too, was confused by all of the inserts. They put it in PLASTIC just to ask me to subscribe. LOL I was so disappointed to open that plastic and not see a note from the editors or anything giving me options. If I didn't frequent some of the shelter blogs, I would have never known!
Geez - am I the only one looking forward to getting Architectural Digest?
I took Cookie. I've enjoyed their home tours ...
Thanks for the info! I switched and they were super friendly & it took all of 2 minutes!
I had a recent two-year sub. so made 1 yr. SELF and the other VANITY FAIR. boooooo to Architectural Digest.
I called Conde Nast a couple weeks ago before I even knew AD was the default mag they'd send. There was no way I was going to endure a magazine I didn't want! And at that point I had a sinking suspicion that I wasn't going to like whatever mag they chose. Glad to see I was right! hehe
^And I got Vogue, instead!
AD is not that bad. It really isn't. I can't afford anything in it, but I can't afford anything in Vogue either.
I also jumped ship to Vanity Fair. Thanks for the list; definitely happy to have been spared from the horror that is Architectural Digest.
I switched over to Bon Appetit.
I've never read Architectural Digest...can someone enlighten me as to why it's so horrible?
Thank goodness for this post. I just called Vanity Fair and was told it depends on the situation if they can transfer the subscription. I told them I read it online...presto. I have Vanity Fair for the next 9 months!
I sent Domino an email the same day I heard about them closing and got a $5 refund instead of some magazine I'm not interested in. You can always get the cash back if none of the magazines look appealing to you.
anyone have any opinions on cookie?
i check their nesting blog everynow and then, and they have some cool stuff- but i've never seen the mag.
hmmm. i just tried to switch and was told since i went through magazines.com (because i'm a mypoints member) i have to wait for a postcard in the mail- then i can call in and try to switch subscriptions.
i really hope they done send AD! not my taste AT ALL!
Nooo....my subscription to arch digest won't die as is.
I'll be calling promptly...Thanks!
Hmm...now Traveler or Cookie?
Any thoughts?
I just cancelled my subscription.
AD didn't start appealing to me until a few years ago when I was remodeling my house. I got some great ideas for mouldings and finishes from some of the ads and articles that I was able to replicate for a fraction of the cost.
Thank you so much for the information!! I was still in mourning about losing Domino and had no idea that I would be able to get a replacement for my subscription--and since I'm not normally a fan of AD I was only to happy to switch to a magazine I was considering a subscription for anyway---Wired. It's not Domino, but at least I have Apartment Therapy for my daily design fix!
Bon Appetit, which I end up buying half the time at the supermarket checkout when I'm hungry.
Yay! Bon Appetit for me, and it only took about two minutes, no acct. # or anything. Glad I saw this!!
heres my dilemma-- i got the Domino guide to decorating book for xmas, which came with a free subscription to domino. i sent off the little postcard a couple of weeks before i ever heard about domino folding. do i still get an alternative mag? or, because i didnt actually subscribe and/or pay for it, i get nothing? cause i'd love bon apetit...
rlmesq - you should still get it. i didn't have a problem with mine and had about the same timing as yours. have you started receiving your subscription yet? if you have, you're golden.
I transfered to Gourmet, but it doesn't start until May. Apparently, I don't get anything for April, and my subscription is not extend a month, which rather BURNS me!
Did this happen to anyone else?
I called to switch and I didn't even need my account number. I got Cookie.
My subscription to Cookie doesn't start till May.
Just switched to Conde Nast Traveler (so I can ogle hotels I can't afford instead of couches I can't afford) and it couldn't have been easier. The operator even commiserated with me about the demise of Domino!
