Q: I have a bunch of movie, music and art posters from my university days that are just sitting in rolls in my new grown-up house. I still like them, but not as primary wall art. What other ways can I make use of them?

White Enamel Flatwa...
This is such a good question! My husband and I have tons of ikea-framed music posters. We don't have a bonus room/basement in our place (which would be ideal for those, I think). So instead, I brought them to the office (fun for decorating the cubicle).
wallpaper the inside of a closet or the back of a bookshelf. make origami boxes from them. decoupage them onto trays. display them on a tabletop under glass.
I've seen posters used to decoupage chairs and I think it looks great. Have a look.

I have this situation as well. Hubby is planning on building a small bar when we finish the basement, and I'm thinking of incorporating it on the bartop somehow, maybe under glass.
Could you make a coffee table book of them with pictures of that time in your life? Or something scrapbook-like?
One day while considering what to do with a poster like that, I leaned it against the wall (on the floor) next to a bookshelf behind a floor lamp. People started telling me they really liked it there. Shrug.
If you don't mind parting with them, another idea is to use them as wrapping paper.
They'd be great framed in a guest bath/powder room.
You can roll them up and place them in a basket or bucket or large vase, etc. and display them. I did this with a bunch of maps I had and put it on the top of a bookcase.

What size are we talking about? I thought of laminating them (professionally) and using them as place mats? Unless they're very large.
How about using them on the walls next to a staircase, if you have one? I have a similar love for HUGE posters with minimal wall space.
Keep them rolled up in a tube and give them to your kids when they are teenagers - the posters will be 'vintage' by then and they will love them.
hmmm ...
if you like those posters, why not use them as "primary wall art"?
asked by someone who has a big poster of a jimmy buffett album for all to see in my home
If they are cool, go ahead and use them as primary wall art (although have them professionally framed, especially if they are large). If they're tacky (like the Sex and the City one shown in the photo above), then use them for arts and crafts.
My friend and I like to collect free postcards from Mag Rack. They usually advertise local businesses. One day she made me a poster by just overlapping them in a frame. It looks very cool. You could cut up the posters and do the same thing.
I took mine and cut them into large rectangles, like maybe six to ten pieces depending on the poster size. I sandwiched each piece between two pieces of plastic cut to the same size (could use glass) and put all the pieces up like a puzzle of the original poster, but with some white space between. I thought it made my old posters look a bi tmore grown up.
Anjelly: you could do that with old cd cases!
I had a huge collection of concert posters stored away. So I framed them and covered an entire empty wall in my hallway.

unroll & frame them (even frameless lucite w clips makes them look adult), think of using them as 3/row or 4/rectangle. before cutting them up, check on bidding sites to see if there is value; can sell the ones that are inconsistent in collection to pay for framing remainder. also limit how many groups are in 1 sightline.
@mntngr - I really love what you have done. Thanks for sharing.
