One of our favorite holiday rituals is placing the wreath on the door. Now, with this eco-friendly version made up of succulent plants, we can enjoy having a wreath on our door year-round.

The variety of succulents gives this wreath a good mix of color (green, burgundy and silver) and texture. It needs watering about every six to eight weeks making it much lower maintenance than our rosebushes!
You can pick up your own wreath at VivaTerra for $89.

At $89, I'd be more interested to learn how to make one of these for less money. Surely Martha has done one already?
Even if you make it....unless you have a large succulent source at hand, they are more expensive than you would think (not 90-bucks worth....).
You need the wire wreath molds...spaghnum moss....some potting soil and a lot of succulents.
Soak the moss -- line the inside of the 2 molds with the moss....making a channel. In that channel put potting soil. Then wire the 2 sides together to make a donut.
Then use a chop stick to make holes and poke in succulents to fill the whole thing. Some of the succulents may need a florist pin to hold them in place until they grow roots....especially those on the bottom hanging upside down.....
let it entirely dry out between waterings, and to water you just take it down and put it in a bucket/pan/trash can lid to soak.
Remember when you hang it back up it will drip ALOT of water - so time it correctly not to bathe the folks on the balcony below you (it will cost you some good wine to make up for it - spoken from experience!).
How long does it last?
It's really beautiful!
