Around this time last year, I wrote about beautiful handmade Día De Los Muertos goods with which to decorate your home, as well as fabrics to make your own heirloom projects. This year I'd like to highlight works of art that celebrate the magic and beauty of this holiday...
- Day of the Dead, Carnitas by Jacqui Oakley was featured on Mint and I love it! Her elaborate headdress is made of all the fixin's for carnitas: avocados, chiles, tacos, and more (I just pretend the meat is tempeh or seitan).
- Lux Luthor's Storm Trooper Dia De Los Muertos is available in a range of sizes through Society 6. I'm positive there's someone in your life who loves the Day of the Dead and Star Wars in equal measure.
- MayhemHere has lots of Day of the Dead prints, but this one, "El primer dia", is my favorite, with its feathers and delicate gold wings.
- La Bella Muerte II by K.Martinez is simple, clean, and appropriately lacy.
- This Dia de los muertos skull by AsatorArise is not currently available as a print, but you can download it through deviantART.
- I adore the sweet smiles on the skulls in Faratiana Andriamanga's Swinging with La Muerta. Don't worry, lady!
- Two Tone Press' block print poster is so evocative, and could look great in a kitchen.
- Minks Paperie has created a customizable Dia de los Muertos Sugar Skulls papercut, which could be an amazing autumn wedding or anniversary gift for the right couple. Eternal love!
- This final photo from SOMArts is not available for sale (as far as I can tell) but I couldn't resist showing you. It was taken by Rio Yañez, who is hosting his annual Día de los Muertos exhibit, Calling On The Spirits To Face The Future in San Francisco. See you there?

If you love this type of artwork, please check out this awesome New Mexican artist Brandon Maldonado! He was a high school friend that does AMAZING work! You may recognize his work on Zac Brown band's Uncaged album cover!

Check out Wulff Art on Facebook - another New Mexico artist. I own 5 of his pieces and his sugar skulls are fantastic. He individually cuts and paints each piece from car license plates.

No great artist ever sees things as they really are. If he did, he would cease to be an artist. You are welcome to like "Modern Art District" on Facebook.

A friend of mine is making hand embroidered Calaveras: www.calavera.co.za. I've got two of her pieces and they are just stunning, I was blown away by the detail when I first got to see them.
Sylvia Ji does it best!
