Hi there, I designed my headboard and side tables (see attached pics), which my grandpa welded for me. I'm having an impossible time finding bedding (specifically a duvet cover) that will add some colour and pattern to the room but not compete with the headboard.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I should mention: the white curtains and black and white lamps are new (and much loved) and staying in the room.
P.S. If you prefer to see a different angle of the room, there are more pictures posted here: dans-le-townhouse.blogspot.com. But I think the two attached are the best.

That is an amazing headboard. So cool. What about keeping the duvet you have now and adding a pop of color with a blanket. A vibrant red would look stunning.
Yeah, I agree with lorint. Also, just getting some bright cushion covers to go over those beigey pillows would do wonders.
Lucky you to have such a handy grandpa!
I suggest Marimekko, maybe the Kaivo pattern. You want something with a big pattern. It looks less busy than a small pattern but still gives a lot of visual impact.
That headboard is beautiful and I think that duvet goes with it quite well. While it's not what you were asking for, what about switching out the curtains to colored ones, instead of the duvet? Big pop of color without direct competition to that awesome headboard.
I'd go with some colorful pillows and maybe a throw blanket at the end of the bed to add some color to the room. Otherwise it looks great. Love the headboard!
Have you ever thought of keeping the current bedding and painting the wall behind the headboard. The headboard is beautiful but due to the white wall it blends in. Maybe try painting the wall the color of the throwpillows. Some paint on that wall would really make that fabulous headboard and side tables POP!
I also think the easiest thing to do is add a colorful blanket at the foot of the bed, and replace the beige pillows.
That said, if you really want to change the duvet colour, I'd go for a LARGE pattern - really big. Something simple. Marimekko would be great, as suggested.
Love the headboard, clever girl. I go along with the pops of color, pillows etc. (sorry I haven't had an original thought since 1982)
I have no suggestions for duvets, but I like your headboard so much I registered an account just to tell you! I've seen similar, but they've never grabbed me before. The subtle asymmetry and floating rectangle feel are just stunning here. So jealous!
Love what you have so far. As others suggested, you could change the bedsheet and pillow covers to a solid color. I like the shade of green of the accent pillows. Also, the floor is beautiful, you should remove the bedskirt, and add an area rug of a similar green (no pattern). A nice big plant by the window/patio door would complete the room (and maybe a wooden bench)
hate to be cheesy, but Urban Outfitters often have some really cool duvets. give it a try!
I tried this search a while back and nothing fit the style/quality I was looking for. There is some pretty awful choices out there. I like the comments above chose a deep gray duvet and a rusty orange blanket at the end of the bed. Also think about looking for a modern quit for over the bed which may give you a lot of pattern. Sorry for the lack of help but it may be a fruitless journey.
Check out the wish list four posts below... There is a similar headboard paired with a brightly colored, large-scale duvet and some white, textured pillow shams from West Elm.
I absolutely adore your headboard! Maybe change the bedskirt color and add some pillows to match it.
Not sure why but when I see gray, black and white, I long for some pops of purple or fuchsia or maybe a vibrant (not too dark) eggplant. Hmm, maybe find a purple-ey color and a green-ey color to work with the room. A nice throw, pillows, some art, rug (great floors too!) and ditch the dust ruffle. LOVE your headboard.
replace the accent pillows and put a solid red, orange or yellow throw across the end of the bed. Great job on the headboard...I hear the sounds of frantic copying now!
I would do a solid duvet cover, and some other accents with pillows or throw blankets. For the accents, if you go vertical stripes, it would help to draw the eye up to your headboard.
Wow. Nice! I'd keep with the rough geometric/outline theme you have going on. One or two colors to pop against the black, in simple shapes like circles or squares. As mentioned above, instead of doing this in the duvet, you can do it with some large pillows or a blanket at the foot. Or you could go very much in the other direction, lots of colors and 'messy' to throw into relief the rest of the room. Something like http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-8536222/stock-vector-seamless-color-vector-geometric-background.html ?
Or, for another idea, leave the bed the way it is and paint the wall behind the headboard (and just that wall) a big color, like a rich maroon.

What you've already seen (with what you've chosen) is that as long as you vary the scale from the pattern of the headboard, another patten won't compete with your headboard. So, you might want to look at West Elm, which has a similar vibe: their cherry blossom duvet is on sale and would add a lot of color (http://www.westelm.com/products/cherry-blossom-duvet-cover-and-shams-b548/?pkey=cduvet-covers-quilts) if that's to your liking. Or: Winter pine (more subdued) http://www.westelm.com/products/organic-winter-pine-duvet-shams-b558/?pkey=cduvet-covers-quilts -- both of these have a bit of nature like the one you had but are more stylized and have more color. Or, if you want to go all out bold color, you could just add a solid duvet in a color you love that has a pattern or texture to it (quilted, puckered, velvety, silky) depending on what you like.
I really like the comforter you have, and I think bright sheets and pillows would work really well, as others have said... but if you really want another duvet cover, maybe this?

Get rid of the tan pillows, they look kind of sickly on the bright white and graphic style. You can switch them for a long bright red pillow like someone else suggested. Don't do accent walls.
LOVE the headboard and tables.
I would do pillows with some type of texture. And have fun with the colors. Turquoise, midnight blue, bright orange, currant, eggplant, jewel tone green...you can change them as your mood changes. Even add a vase or bowl or sculpture that picks up the color or adds a complimentary color.
If you really want the head board to pop I would go with a solid color duvet cover and contrasting pillows, and a few unique decorative pillows. Try Etsy.com and search throw pillows. Your sure to find something awesome.
What is under the bedskirt? Do you need it?. I would like exposed iron legs, if grampa could manage that also. I think your bedding looks perfect except for the accent pillows. You and your grampa did a great job!
Hi everyone,
Amazing suggestions! Thanks for taking the time to reply.
To answer a question posed to me: under the bedskirt is an ugly bedframe from The Brick that I have to use or the warranty on our mattress and boxspring will be voided. It is also what the headboard attaches to.

Funny...look at the post four down from this one. The headboard is similar and it uses a bolder, more colorful pattern. I like what you have but agree with all the comments above.
Oh, and can I borrow your grandpa? Does he have a welding business?
I look at this and imagine merimekko print, graphic, but bright and colorful
love the bed
First, gotta say I love the headboard and side tables! Tell Grandpa "Well done!"
I agree with everyone else that your current diver cover seems to work rather nicely. I'd switch out the toss pillows for a couple of jewel toned silk ones (teal, purple, fuschia, lime, copper, they'd all look lovely) and a matching colored coverlet/quilt folded across the end of the bed. In the summer you could switch the quilt to cover the bed, with the duvet folded across the foot of the bed.
Duvet not diver, sorry.
Hi Tanya! I know your pain - I looked for the perfect duvet for a year and finally found it at: urbanoutfitters.com! I had been looking everywhere (dwell, twinkle, frette) and was willing to spend a load of money but couldn't find anything that was quite right. Urban has super cute stuff and it's really reasonable. Also, make sure that you check out the sale section as well, because those duvets are not listed in the regular section. Good luck!
I wouldn't change a thing. Maybe just a pop of bright red or green, otherwise, it's perfect as it is.
Your current duvet is perfect for your headboard and lamps. The wispiness of the flowers is a perfect contrast to all the angles. I'd switch out the yellow pillows for another color and call it a day.
You could also add a brightly colored vase to the nightstands. And you could add a second curtain rod to have a more colorful curtain that hangs outside of the white curtain and remains fully open to add a colored layer to the curtain you already have.
I like what you have going on in your room, it looks nice and restful. However, you asked for help with adding color so my suggestions are to: A) swap out the matching shams for some with color - a tone on tone graphic pattern that relates to your current duvet, or a solid. B) flowers on the side tables are a super quick and easy way to bring color into the room. C) if you have basic sewing skills (or even if you don't, use iron on adhesive and) add a thin band of color around the bed skirt for a more tailored look; similar to this, or this. And/or D) this same band of color can be added to the vertical edge of the curtains for a semi-custom look.
Oh, another suggestion.. adding some color in a completely different way by attaching small pieces of fabric (preferably with a pattern -saaay floral? And/or texture - think velvet oooh) to the back of your headboard. This would look cool if it's done on a few select squares and rectangles with 2 - 3 complimentary fabrics. Of course you could get the same effect by painting on the wall but that's tedious and not as easy to swap out.
i have this white duvet from cb2 which i think is great. it is simple enough, but the lines of embroidery floss in bright primary colors bring a pop of color so it's not quite so boring. i think the lines made by the embroidery floss would compliment the great headboard & nightstands!
good luck!
Keep the duvet and add brightly colored sheets, pillows, and/or a throw. Adding bold accessories to the lower shelves on the nightstands would also add color to the room.
Beautiful headboard! You are blessed to have sunch a talented grandpa.
I wouldn't add anything but a couple of bright pillows and a lil' something on your table. I love this.
Your grandpa ROCKS.
I haven't taken the time to read through all of the responses, so I apologize if this has been said already...but my suggestion would be to keep the duvet but buy a new colorful skirt (....maybe chartreuse?). Also, get some new sheets with color, perhaps the same color as the skirt (or in the same family, different hue). I would then accent with some colorful pillows...maybe some that have texture on the fabric itself....and some of the pillows could be the same color you choose for the sheets/skirt...and some that contrast. Hope this is helpful and not too vague. Good-Luck! Great work on the headboard, you must be so proud of it!
Agree with all who said paint the wall behind the bed. Most impact for least money, and would also be great for a big picture impact with the headboard, nightstands and lamps. I could envision a bright, cool red, but that's a matter of personal preference!
I like what you have now.
I would invest in a high quality set of white sheets and duvet cover, nothing like sleeping on really good Egyptian cotton.
Bring color in with less expensive shams, cushions and a throw in a bright color of your choice bring in texture and pattern.
Have you seen Bedding Envy there are tones of sources and ideas for brightly colored duvets and bedding.

I agree with most posts. Keep the neutral duvet cover, and add color with accessories. I suggest brighter throw pillows and coordinating lampshades. Perhaps the added color could be a cherry red or a jewel-toned deep purple?
Where did you get the comforter in this picture?
