Q: My fiance and I just moved in together and we are looking to re-decorate his place. For the living room, we finally settled on white covers for the Ikea Ektorp sofa and loveseat, and Benjamin Moore's Pebble Beach gray for the walls. The furniture is mostly dark wood. We are on the hunt for warm and fun accent colors/pieces to spice up the color palette. Any suggestions?

I'm always a huge fan of gray and mustard yellow.

I had to do a double take at that link posted in the comment above.
Seriously?
White and gray is a blank canvas. You can throw any and all different colors in. Depends on what you and your boyfriend like. Just look around for inspiration photos to find your style. Find one piece of art or piece of textile that you love, and let the rest of your color and style theme come from that.
I agree with the comment above.... however, I might add that if you want a calm look, analogous colors tend to do well together: using 2 accents like green+yellow OR green+blue OR yellow+orange will give you great impact without feeling busy.
Throw in a pattern with many colors to spice things up, too - artwork or a toss pillow is a great way to introduce more color.
I love yellow and grey, we used that combination in our living and guest room. Aside from that, I agree with babyfishmouth that gray works with everyhing.
I came to work early just so I would have proper internet and wouldn't have to type this into my smartphone. Seriously? If you're that indifferent to what the palette is, then you might as well invest in honeysuckle pieces, since they'll be easy to find and you won't have to waste a lot of time looking for things you aren't inherently interested in. Alternatively, you should pick a really tricky color so that things will be hard to find and you won't wind up spending lots of money on oodles of stuff you aren't inherently interested in.
If I were to start over with just neutrals, I might add turquoise blue, chartreuse, and red. Or, I might add the green, yellow, and orange 70's citruses. However, as others commented, it's what you like that counts. Browse palettes recommended on paint companies' web sites. Have fun!
Really dark wood looks fine with Pebble Beach, but I think a slightly more medium tone of wood really works fantastically with PB. It really warms up the whole scheme and still leaves you free to add mustard or yellow green or pink or whatever you like.
Try just one piece in a warm medium wood like walnut or even cherry adn see what I mean.
I agree with babyfishmouth. If you don't know where to start, I just got my latest West Elm catalog and they have some nice throw pillows in several different color schemes. Not sure if you are looking for a rug or curtains but they could be a good place to start and pull colors from. I would also try to find things with a several different patterns and/or textures as well. Also I like searching Etsy for pillows (once you pick a couple of colors).
AT and its readers get understandably upset when people don't leave constructive comments for its posts, but when they put up such non-questions like this one, it's like they're just begging for it. How should we decorate a completely tasteful and neutral apartment? Um, go shopping and buy anything you like in your price range?
Orange. All shades of.
I think a great starting place would be to select a large painting/poster/wall hanging that you love and draw your colors from that. I have an old poster calendar; the prints are about 18x24 in mostly bright pastels (think teal, magenta, celadon etc.) and since I couldn't select a favorite I plan to cut them into 2" wide strips and mount them on a large canvas. I am scouring the local thrift shops to find a suitable base since new large canvases are expensive. I will paint the entire canvas a very deep navy and just paste on the poster strips in a random stripe pattern. My furniture is beech and upholstery is navy. You could also look for a rug with colors you love - there are so many wonderful abstract pattern area rugs out there!
Pick something you love and then run it through a colour accent picker (google this) to find some colours
Agree with most of the above comments. Find a piece of art that speaks to you, pull your colors from that.
@HernandoHouse your house is adorable! I'm nominating you for a house tour. We have similar tastes! I looove yellow and plan to incorporate it into my lr/dr/hallway. BTW I heart your yellow bathroom.
I also like the look of yellow and gray, BUT I think they are a bit too trendy and will be fading out soon. Same goes with purple/plum. Trendy, but possibly heading out the door.
Some of the others suggested blues. Currently I'm into navy (which would look great with gray) and Pantone's color of the year is Hibiscus (fuschia pink.) Any color goes with a gray wall and white couch. The 2 of you must decide on your favorites.
COLORS NOT TO USE--sage, seafoam green, mint green etc. If you go with green it needs to be in a brighter tone like the inside of a ripe avocado or lime green but NOT neon.
@burntoast my bedroom is gray and yellow. Yes it may be trendy but I love it. I've always loved yellow and was recently introduced to the joy of gray. However, that doesn't mean that I change my colors with each new trend. I despise painting and just cannot imagine repainting my house to match each new color trend. I like what I've got now and plan to happily stick to it for a while.
BTW the new color trend is honeysuckle/pink. As hard as House Beautiful and other pubs try to push it I'm not buying it and would never paint any room in my house pink.
Oops. My mistake, Honeysuckle pink not hibiscus. I still think it's a great color.
Don't you have any colors that you really like? I love your place. so nice! I vote for torquoise but really there is so much you can do here. It just depends on what you like. Also I do agree that grey and yellow do look really nice together.
