Suki's Stylish Light Shelf

Every new year brings a sense of optimism, but it seems like a few of us were expecting a little bit more...after all, it's 2010! Where's my damn hovercraft? Oh well. In the meantime, we'll have to make do with some space age decor inspirations, like this stylish light shelf featured on Suki's awesome (and awesomely Finnish) blog Varpunen…

Here's a photo of her bed alcove before: Very simple and sparse with all the focus on the gorgeous knitted black blanket. Not a lot of light, even with all the bedding, walls, and floors white, and Suki opted not to use conventional sconces (We're pretty sure that cluster of yellow hanging from the vent is a bunch of Christmas lights, but we're not quite sure...it looks like there's a cord to plug it in though).

The installation process at work...

A detail photo of Suki's light shelf. Love the white on white with the horse figurine--so subtle.

We could definitely see something like this fitting in a loft with an industrial edge, or even a small studio apartment like Suki's. Just remember to avoid fluorescent lights--no one looks good in that lighting!
