Maybe it’s the heat of the summer getting to us. Maybe it’s all that extra quality time with the kids over summer break. Whatever it is, over the weekend we found ourselves getting nostalgic about summer camp crafts. Warning: this activity can be addictive.
We seem to recall popsicle sticks and chunky yarn scraps were the common materials used for making God's Eyes, but we put some driftwood pieces and embroidery floss to good use this time. Because the floss is so thin, it can be a bit tedious for the little hands. Probably the smaller the hands, the bigger the yarn needed.

STEPS
1. Tie off the first color on one of the sticks
2. Place the second stick perpendicular to the first and wrap in a criss-cross fashion to secure.
3. Send the yarn over the top of one stick end, wrapping it around and then sending it on to the following stick end. Repeat. Change colors as desired.

I was just telling my husband on the weekend something about my brother making God's eyes when he was in daycare.. and my husband had never heard of them.. thanks for the link, now I can prove I wasn't making it up!
I know someone who made these with her kids and as they grew up and moved out, it became a tradition to always include one in a package or with a letter. Now she has hundreds of them and she hangs them all over her house at Christmastime. It's really beautiful.
