'Tis the season to be touching your toes to the ocean, spending lazy days at the lake, and lounging poolside. Being near the water is a quintessential part of summer, so why not incorporate reminders of your day at the beach into your home décor? Visual cues will keep you refreshed, even midweek when you're cooped up inside.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I was debating whether to post this but thought 'what the hell - this is karma" so I'm just letting you know that we sell wonderful beach artwork :)
But removing my advertising head for a moment, I have to say that artwork is a great way to bring the beach into a home. It's relaxing and happy and is there all year round. I saw a great idea at a beach restaurant the other day too. They had a small glass on each table (Bodum-style glasses) with half an inch of sand in the bottom and a few pretty seashells on it. I'm going to copy that. We already have a glass vase filled with shells but I like the idea of tiny ones too.
I like the idea of a tea candle being nestled in there too. That would look stunning as the light would illuminate the shells.
now add a votive candle to your small glass with half an inch of sand and a few pretty seashells... magic. used them for a party.
We actually live a block from the beach and as a surfer, I get a lot of "beach-saturation"....whatever that means. And I hate theme-y decor. What I did in our house was to choose colors that remind me of the ocean, the sand and the California sky, both in the morning and the evening. I'm calmest around those colors and it's pretty evocative of the beach and sea without being "costumey" and forced. And strangely, beiges, whites and blacks make a fantastic backdrop for deeper colors that range from blues to peony pink and orange pretty darn well.
Okay, even though I don't see the beach in that bedding, it's gorgeous and I want it. Yes. I want it.
Now how can I set up the sand filled jars without my kitties wanting to play in them?
Hmmmm.... (thinking)
