For the second year in a row, we're engaging in a one room casual summer cure of our own over at Mom's apartment. Last year we tackled our childhood bedroom; this year it is the kitchen that is calling our name. Mom left this week to visit family in Ireland, so we have seven weeks to work some AT magic before she returns...
We would like to paint the kitchen and dining nook a soft yellow to add some brightness to this dark room. The cabinets will stay white, and the green trim will also go white for a clean fresh look. The window treatment is going away; we would love to replace it with some glass shelves to hold small plants but aren't sure if that would cut out too much light.
There are some non-negotiables that we have to work around. The shelves that display Mom's wedding china have to stay, and she loves the table and chairs (though we wouldn't mind a darker finish). This is a rental, so moving walls etc simply isn't an option. We're looking for advice and ideas, but please be nice- remember, this is Mom's kitchen and we do love her!
