Every summer we go to visit friends up in the Berkshires. Their family lives in a remarkable series of buildings, which once comprised a small Shaker village. It's a magical place, which I've documented pretty fully in the past (see below), but last weekend I got to do one of my favorite things and do the table for dinner.
It's amazing to work with a really old room and really old elements, weaving flowers and moss into the mix. This is the sort of thing that's not only a great weekend project, but it also makes a huge impact. People really enjoy sitting down to a well done table. Enjoy the pics and use them as inspiration for your next table!

SETTING THE TABLE

The table at start with dishes and glasses ready...

The spot where I found a nice piece of moss...

Rolling out the moss! (I returned it back outside the next day.)

Night is falling & just before dinner...

White Enamel Four-P...
looks like a beautiful evening. well done.
Too beautiful for words! I wish I was attending this magical dinner party.
There is something about old rooms, rooms with history, that is just lacking in newer buildings. One can leave these rooms completely empty, or add the least amount of furniture, and they look fabulous.
Gorgeous!
I had no idea you could do that with moss!
I agree with Ljilja...too beautiful for words.
I love shaker style and what you did with it! there is a shaker village near my old college and it's one of my favorite places in the world. this post brings back happy thoughts.
agreed.
It is pretty...but yeah...my daughter runs around the house like that everyday in the summer (sometimes less, lol) and it makes a beautiful picture. But there are places for these kinds of pictures...public access on the internet not being one. Thinking about some sicko getting off on a picture of my kid is not something I ever want to worry about.
But it's a very pretty table...and I love the moss covered steps. I've had a thing for moss the past year or so.
magical banquet setting.
And I'm also enjoying the butter yellow floor, blinding white walls and my favorite blue everywhere else.
Still blows me away that you know folk who own that place. Having grown up in the Berkshires, and aware of this and the more famous Hancock Shaker Village (and another nearby across the NY State line in New Lebanon) I always admired Shaker style, and I appreciate what a joy it must be to experience those spaces firsthand. And what a lovely job you did!!!
Oh, I grew up in the Berkshires! This post made me miss having summer dinners at my favorite time of day, when the sun starts to go down. Love the way the table came out.
Congrats, what a beautiful table. I hope the evening was wonderful (and I'm really sure it was).
I just put in an offer on an old house today (over 100 years) and am so excited I can hardly live with myself!!
As much as I love kids, this is not the place for a photo nearly naked young girl. It can be lifted from your site and put elsewhere not as wholesome. Plus she will kick your butt when she gets older.
My worry about the picture of Ursula is that there are so many details about her life in this posting. From what is presented here, it wouldn't be hard for some creep to hunt her down -- and he'd already know her name, which would make it easier to gain her trust.
Gives me the shivers. Hope that the father keeps her well-protected on that lovely property. Perhaps he should obtain a well-trained dog to accompany and protect her when she plays outside.
All of it simply beautiful and innocent and nothing over-done.
pve
Ok, you guys shook my resolve. I didn't think it was improper (and our office manager, who's European, wondered what the fuss was about), but I'm taking it down so as to not to cause any more fuss!
What a festive dinner table - Looks like Thanksgiving!
Thank you, Maxwell. You clearly are a nice person with too good a heart to imagine what some evil individual could/would do with what you created as a celebration of loveliness. It's sad that we must be so vigilant to protect our children, but beauty lives cheek by jowl with wickedness in our time.
PLEASE can you ID the dinnerware????!!!! I love those plates!
Soooo beautiful... I'm really tempted to do something similar for my wedding centrepieces. You can't go wrong with moss in my books.

That's an especially lovely table setting, though I'd be worried about bugs with the fresh moss having been brought in from outside. Sometimes I place the moss in a sealed bag and freeze it to take care of any insects that might want to make themselves at home in my home. :)
Wow! I love the concept of this post: time-lapse photography of preparing for a party. Honestly, I would love to see more of this. People, start photographing your party decorations so I can copy you!
I love the table setting. Its so romantic. With the countryevening and the candles the ambiance must have been sublime. Well done.

I didn't even notice the kid. Beautiful room!
