Sun in a jar.
We were really intrigued to find the Sun Jar by Suck Uk
in our New York Magazine "Best Bets" email today.
It seems like designers have been coming up with some really interesting night lights and battery-operated candles lately, but this is definitely our current lighting favorite. The design is so pretty and understated, and at the same time- it's a green idea. Read on to find out exactly how it works.
So...you place one of these guys on your windowsill or anywhere it can get some sun during the day. A solar cell inside, along with a rechargeable battery and low energy LED lamps work their magic and in a few hours, the battery will be charged.
There are no wires or switches- just the simple beauty of the frosted mason jar. A sensor inside actually activates the light when it gets dark. (We were happy to read there is actually a switch inside the lid if you want to conserve the battery when you're not using the light).
What a perfect nightlight for a child's room in the summer. It just makes us think of fireflies and crickets chirping. Of course, we also think having a few of these on the table or the deck would also make for a great conversation piece at our next dinner party.
They're available around April 20th at Greener Grass Design for $48, but you can put your order in now. We have a feeling these are going to go fast.
