Because of the way homes are designed, we often need lighting during the day. This seems completely crazy when the sun is ours for the using. It seems more like we as humans should be in the business of creating shade. Enter Sun-Tek Tube skylights. With a few of these around your house/ apartment, no more will you have to turn on lights during the day.
The great thing about this design over some others is that the diffusion lenses that mount in the ceiling actually look like light fixtures so no one will be able to tell that you are stealing energy [for free] from the sun. These look like a great way to light a home!
They should be in all the schools
My parents have this in their home! It is grrrreat. Except....the guys who installed it didn't seal the dome on the roof correctly...which made for a leaky and water damaged ceiling. But other than that, it works wonderfully!
My brother-in-law installed a couple in their house; works great. He's a fairly handy guy, but even so I think someone with general construction knowledge can install them on their own. They work really well, and are fantastic for brightening up obscure corners & hallways.
I wish my condo association would let me punch through my roof so I could have one...

Those lights are incredible. You can truly have a green home when you combine those lights with ceiling fans. I saw a special on tv about them. My main question is the installation. I would worry about a leaky roof. I'm always paranoid about cutting into my roof because I've seen what can happen from water damage first hand.
The previous owners of my place installed these and they are amazing! No leaks either. They're far brighter than conventional skylights. At night they act as dim nightlights because they usually still have a little light from streetlights or cloud cover.
Make sure the skylights are installed correctly... you want to avoid fire damage repairs before they're needed!
