I wanted to create an eclectic space that captured my daughter's super glam diva style as well as my son's Batman/superhero/any hero persona.
I DIY'ed the mobile and hand-sewed the birds using fabric from an old maternity top. I created the two tassel garlands from tissue paper, and the area rug I purchased online at RugsUSA.com. The nightstand is thrifted, and for the art work I downloaded free printables and framed them.
Source List:
•Rug: RugsUsa
•Dresser: Thrifted
•Mobile: DIY (pattern for the birds can be found at Lavender's Blue Design)
•Tassel: DIY (also available at Briana's Etsy shop)
•Printables: For Chics Sake and MaybeMeJ

OMG! A kids room that looks like actual kids live in it! Never did I think I would see it on AT in my life.
This may be the first AT post in which parents admit their children live and sleep among the licensed characters. Bravo!
Lots of people have kids who live in a room supplied by ToysRUs. But I have no reason to read about it on a design blog. Three quarters of Suburbia looks exactly like this.
Awesome rug!
I am sure AT will take lots of "this is not design!" flack for this but it's nice to see a room that kids appreciate [and have some design input!] rather than a decorator's/ stylist's vision. I like how they incorporated licensed characters in with home made design stuff. Good balance! Adults [me included] hate this stuff but kids LOVE it. You've got to let kids have some say in their surroundings- even if it means Dora sheets. Otherwise you'll have a 22 year old wearing a Spongebob backpack to deal with. Cheers!
I think it's a refreshing slice of real life, so many of the kids' rooms on here are so overworked and overdesigned, by parents for themselves more than for their kids, that the quest for the perfect combination of perfect pieces has rendered them generic in all their mid century modern thrift store eclectic DIYiness. Three quarters of urban hipster parent neighborhoods look exactly the same, give or take some vintage toys. And I'm tired of reading about that on design blogs.
I would love to know what the paint name and brand are. I love it. Thanks!
