I can remember moving into my studio apartment in Hollywood just like it was yesterday, even though it was six long years ago. At the time, studio life was a new experience--unless you count the first year of college living in the freshman dorms. Figuring out how to separate the bedroom from the living area was the biggest challenge but ultimately I pulled it off. If you are in the same boat, here's a handful of photos to get you started and help act as your road map as you're setting up shop.

we have an apartment set up similar to #1, but there's actually french doors that lead to the bedroom, whereas #1 has a built in bookshelf.
now that i'm seeing it, i bet i could build a bookshelf on a roller track there and maximize the space, while still staying private. ultimately, i would have to remove the doors...but what a great idea.
thanks!
Does anyone know the source of the curtains in the last photo? I think the same space appeared in a recent post about small bedrooms, with a closer shot of the curtains, and now I really want them. They look familiar--old West Elm, perhaps?
@WendyInIndy -- they're from Anthropologie. They really are gorgeous.
I want Kristin's apartment. I would be totally up for surrendering my 1-bedroom for a studio like that.
I like most of the apartments featured here, especially the first and the second on the first row.
but the second apartment in the second row, its really too small a space (at least to me) to feel comfortable.
That's a fantastic pop of blue!
You're the first person thats ever made a snake plant look good.
Love that blue wall.
The last picture looks a lot like my studio - kind of a cool L shape that helps in that separation between bedroom and living room.
I like the use of vertical space that most of these rooms have showcased. I LOVE that neutral color scheme in the last image - so calming. And while we're at it, here's a little peek at my tiny bedroom: http://designfixation.blogspot.com/2010/03/make-yourself-at-home-take-peek-into.html
The last one looks the most optimal...but I also like picture eight.
these studios all look so cozy. i don't know if it's there little bed nooks or what! My studio is a perfect square with no opportunity for nooks. :(
