Superman saves the day, once again. Move over Antiques Roadshow — this is one of the best "found treasure" stories ever. A family facing foreclosure was packing up in anticipation of a move from their home and made a discovery that turned their whole situation around.
According to news reports, they found a copy of Action Comics #1, which is the issue where Superman made his debut, in a box of old comics. Their copy will be auctioned off through Comic Connect later this month and is expected to sell for $250k or more. The bank has agreed to hold off on proceedings while awaiting results of the auction.
Hooray for happy endings and Clark Kents everywhere!

That's a great story! There are hidden treasures, forgotten in the midst of many of us.
Wow! This story is being picked up everywhere. I just read about it at houselogic.com, along with some other happy and not-that-happy stories of people trying to save themselves from foreclosure. http://www.houselogic.com/articles/superman-save-our-house-top-5-craziest-foreclosure-rescue-attempts/?nicmp=social&nichn=HLblogs&niseg=20100806
...is it bad that I read that and thought, "Why would you sell Action Comics #1?!!"
"To keep your house" is the only acceptable answer to that question.
Yeah!!!
i work with customers that are facing hardships and possible foreclosures on their mortgages...so i love to read stories like this!
See, that's one of the big differences with owning a new/ish home -- no hidden treasures! Oh well... (That's what flea markets and thrift stores are for!)
Amazing. Since I'm in the middle of a renovation on a 100 year old house (and have been for the last 4 years), I've sadly become wrapped up in the idea that I'm going to find treasure. I'm like a Goonie. As we're pretty much down to just one room left that hasn't been demoed, I think I need to come to terms with the fact that all there was hidden in this house were old Life magazines from 1964.
I just checked at Comic Connection and the comic sold for $1.5 million. I don't know if it is the same folks but I hope so.
Oh, I may have that wrong. There are two that sold, one at the above price, the other at $1 million. But there is also one listed for an auction that starts later this month. I hope they make the maximum.
That is so crazy! I saw this on the news the other day...a real life fairy tale with a happy ending!
That's what keeps us flea market junkies coming back. I long to find a Limoges or Tiffany anything one day!!!!
