I love Etsy. The downside of its popularity, however, is that it can sometimes be hard to find things or, if you're a seller, to be found by potential customers. Given its popularity, there are bound to be alternatives springing up. My favorite of those so far is SupermarketHQ.
SupermarketHQ is bit like early Etsy — manageable, with great finds that range all over the map. They divide their wares into three categories: wear + carry, space + place & paper + prints. The best part of SupermarketHQ is that it enables us to connect with cool people making beautiful things at affordable prices — that we won't find everywhere we turn.
And SupermarketHQ makes it easy to browse everything.

This site showcases some truly nice work. I do want to point out that the pages take a little while to load. Patience will produce some really good viewing. Check it out!
The heck with the pillow! I want the chair!
Still love some Etsy....but I know what you mean....smiles
reeally like this site. and the prices!
Actually, a lot of the pieces from Supermarket are available on Etsy and elsewhere. That's neither good nor bad, I suppose. Just saying.
NY Times did a great article on alternate crafts sites this weekend...DaWanda, 1000 Markets, and ArtFire, Silkfair were some mentioned. Thanks for posting Supermarket as well!
Did this used to be Elsewares.com? I just notice some similarities.
I've always liked the look of Supermarket HQ better than Etsy, even though the browsing on SHQ is annoying. And I agree with jlyn2723, Elsewares and SHQ do look alike, although Supermarket HQ has a greater number of goods.
I get requests about that chair every week. Man, I wish I could make more - unfortunately it was one of those rare "trash to treasure" finds. I blogged about it here: http://wickedmint.blogspot.com/2009/06/adventures-in-reupholstering.html
