Well, well. Looks like Apple decided to finally update their Cinema line, eh? Dell doesn't seem too impressed. Heck, they're probably laughing about how it took Apple 3 years to add an integrated webcam into their displays while they were able to eat up all the marketshare with their display lines. So, now that they're finally on the same page, we thought we'd open it up to our readers and see what they thought.
Personally, we have always been found of Apple displays because of their excellent color reproduction and less "yellows" found on traditional (and even higher end) Dell displays. Because of this, we find the value of the Apple displays to be a bit higher despite the common complaints of them being 'overpriced' and lacking ports.
Of course, if you're a heavy user and require multiple inputs into your monitor, the Dell should be your best bet because of the number of ports made available and lower price tag. The last on the list is how well the monitor matches with your decor, and in our opinion, Apple still wins in this category. The glossy bezel may have created instant haters for those comfortable with the aluminum finishes, but it still beats the plastic frames found on nearly all Dell monitors any day.

Apple is the only option I see here.
Dell for me. Apple certainly looks great. However, they decided to do it with a glossy screen. That means it would be next to impossible to be properly calibrated, thus any photoshop work is questionable.
I'm working on the very same Dell 24" shown above, hooked up to a new MacBook Pro with a glossy LED powered screen, so I'm playing both sides.
From what I remember of the new 24" from Apple, the colours are noticeably richer and the resolution appears more sharp. That being said, I own the Dell because its performance/value ratio is quite superb, all things considered (two of them replaced a single 23" Apple Studio Display).

Won't do shiney so it's Dell for me. Apple has seriously disappointed this web designer with their choice to remove any matte options on their "pro" laptops. I hope they fix this in the next year or so or I may actually look elsewhere for a new laptop.
I actually like the new glossy displays, they look very sharp. But they're constantly reflecting something unless you're in a pitch black room. No thanks.

You might want to note that this is NOT a replacement in the cinema line - it's a monitor for the MacBook line only. There is no dvi port on the monitor at all, only mini DisplayPort for the new 3 MacBooks.
I was skeptical to go glossy with the iMac but, I found that unless I am sitting with my back to a window, I don't have a problem.
As for color, I use Photoshop on a daily basis and have not had any problems adjusting this screen with a color calibrator.

I like the ascetic of the Apple displays, and they are certainly well made and engineered, but they are still too expensive compared to a good quality Dell, and lack the versatility. As mentioned, this new one only works with the new Macbooks, and is about as close as Apple seems to get to a notebook dock.
Thus, I have my Mac Mini, as well as a PS2, and occasionally a Macbook connected to a 24" Dell display that cost about half as much at the time as Apple's far less versatile 23".
I'm working on an imac and the glossy screen (as stated by modernguy) only gives me trouble when my back is to a sunny window. I also have no trouble calibrating colors.
I feel like i my 10 month old Imac is very old because apple updates freaking 5 times year :P
look at apple and then look at dell.

I have the 24" Dell, and when I bought it two years ago it was not only $600 cheaper than the equivalent Cinema Display, but as others pointed out has more video inputs and is a USB hub.
At the time, I read lots of reviews that stated that Dell and Apple used the same lcd and backlight in their monitors, so the color reproduction should identical (if the monitor settings are identical). That may have changed.
I have an iMac with a glossy screen I was skeptical at first, but, after 8 months, I have to say that I really like the screen. It is super bright though. And, yes, I work in a dark-ish room.
