While at CES, we saw this display at the Intel booth, comparing the price per MHz of computing power: back in 1982 it was $81.06, and now it's about $0.75. My first "computer" was the Atari 400, with the membrane keyboard.
In college, circa 1987-1991, my parents purchased an Epson Equity computer and dot matrix printer for me. No windows. And it used those huge literally "floppy" disks.
How times have changed . . . .
My first was a "portable" Conorona PPC-400 that weighed in at 40 lbs. Originally, it cost about $2k (I think), but it was a hand-me-down.
It was a 16-bit system using 8088 CPU operating at 3.77 MHz, 256Kb RAM. Video has 16x16 pixel characters and Super-Resolution 640x400 pixel graphics.
I got my first computer in high school. It was an Apple IIGS and my sister and I thought we were hot stuff with 512K RAM and a color printer.
I started with a Kaypro II portable CPM unit that still has the best keyboard I ever worked with and wordstar. I kept it for sentimental reasons; 25 years later it still works.
Commodore Vic 20: purchased with my savings from babysitting when I was in middle school... I thought I was da bomb! ha ha!
