One remote? Perhaps only in our dreams for anyone not ambitious enough to tackle finding, buying and programming that one universal remote. Over at the Star Tribune, Randy Salas writes about the lack of control he feels in his life because of the mess of remotes he can't seem to ever find.
Personally, we have it under control, but of course it could be optimized with something like the Logitech Harmony 890--but that could be overwhelming to consider.
Looking for something to corral your remotes until you break down and buy a universal one--or throw away all your electronics--consider a couple we've posted about in the past:
• Remote Control holder from ICFF
• Kiwi Studio's fused glass platters

One, for my mac mini. I've simplified my setup quite a bit: mac mini, PS2, audioengine powered speakers, 24" widescreen Dell monitor. Simple. Compact. Tidy.
I have one each for the tv, home theater system, dvd, cable box, lights and ipod.
I'll be getting the Logitech Harmony 1000 soon though. I'm hoping it will be able to control everything without me having to train it.
one for tv and one for cable - brighthouse in alabama is the cheapest cable company around - it's a dinosaur remote that doesn't have a number for tv/dvd players.
