When your little ones are splish splash, takin' a bath — what do you do? Are you one to read? Knit? Pay bills online? Or would you rather take the opportunity to play with bath toys and pretend to sink the pirate ship with the rubber duck?
We have fond memories of our parents hanging out and playing with us and reading a little later on in life when we were all consumed with swimming in circles in the bathtub like Calvin. So be honest, what do you do? Is it a little extra "me" time as long as everything is going swell? Or would you rather have all eyes on the tub to ensure safety and personal attention?

bath time is now shower time for our 6yo, so i take the time to lie down on my bed (usually no more than 10 minutes). quick little rest to help get me through the rest of the afternoon and evening.
Ha, I do my nails. So not creative, but I get to watch my kid and get something 'mommyish' done.
Bathtime for my 5yo comes right after dinner so sometimes I use the time to finish loading the dishwasher and tidy up the kitchen. And sometimes I just use the time to sit and take a break, surf the internet for a few minutes. :)
It varies who bathes our son, but usually one of us has a computer or reads. He loves playing by himself with the water.
Depends on my energy level...sometimes I hang on the side of the tub and play/talk/splash with my daughter. Sometimes I read a magazine (just like the picture!). Sometimes, if really necessary, I'll give the rest of the bathroom a quick wipe down/cleaning. It's just enough time to get a quick once over taken care of!
I'm lucky that our office is right next to her bath so I use the computer in there. When she was little, I was in there with her with the laptop or BlackBerry. She stays in there forever and always has, so it's a good chance for me to catch up on a few things.
My craft/art room is right next to the bathroom so my little one (2 1/2) bathes and plays while i work on projects. I stop sporadically to wash him (ha) and check that he hasn't flooded the bathroom or bathed the cat. I can hear all his squeaks and laughter so i'm pretty assured that he's not in trouble.
I'm stuck in the bathroom for a half an hour or so, so that is when I clean it. Works out perfectly.
Play, play, play, play. As a mom who works outside the home, that extra bit of play time with my kid is like gold. It sounds corny, but I cherish bath time.
I sit on the counter and watch. I love watching her play and pretend. More often than not Dad gets called to see what "amazing" thing she's doing now.
My daughter is only 2, so she still needs help bathing, but I enjoy playing and talking with her too during bathtime.
My children are still young enough that they need supervision and help with washing. I often will quickly clean the rest of the bathroom while watching them play in the tub. Works out perfectly!
The Husband has always handled bath time, so I usually take the time to do absolutely nothing of any importance. And that little bit of nothing makes all the difference in the world to my sanity ;) He usually uses the time to check his email and play games on his iPod.
Bathe? The kids have a shower when I do.
My 6 & 4 year old take showers with Daddy and my 2 yr old takes a shower with me.
Mine is 2 1/2. We have a big jacuzzi tub, so sometimes I just hop right in with him to relax. Or I soak my feet and do a pedicure/manicure. Or I'm on Facebook on my netbook... He will play in for an hour in there if I would let him!
I have little ones and a small bathroom...I get bored sitting and watching, and I can't leave, so I usually give the room a wipe-down while they play in the tub.
Since I am usually preparing pajamas and towels for post bath, I often spend the time on the phone chatting with my Mom while folding the laundry.
I clean the bathroom while my little guy splashes!
I clean the bathroom!
Bath time for us takes 5-10 minutes, so I usually turn on some music and play with my son.
Actively play play play :D
I'm a SAHM, and I still LOVE bathtime and playing with my little one!
Once a week, I clean the bathroom :)
A few others have already mentioned this, but I clean the bathroom, too!
I sit next to the tub on a stool with my netbook and read blogs and enjoy a glass of wine- the camera is almost always with me for a quick photo shoot. What's cuter than babies covered in bubbles? Honestly, it's the highlight of my day and I almost never let the girls skip their bath.
Depending on mood, time and energy I'll clean the bathroom, bleach the bath toys, stain stick laundry or check my email.
I read the New Yorker. My daughter is 3 so sometimes I'll do laundry or clean up, but I cherish listening/watching her chatter away with her bath toys while I read something totally unrelated to being a mom.
I have twins, so I just eavesdrop!
we have an 18 mo old so we have to hang out in the bathroom and play with him. It's a really nice time at our place. Sometimes when we don't have dinner ready for us on time we have been known to eat dinner with him in there. And sometimes we have a video chat with his grandparents direct from the bathtub.
I plug up the bathtub for my son while I shower. After I'm done I usually play with him for a few minutes then start cleaning. Then run back and forth to the room across the hall where I can have all eyes on him.
clean the bathroom or update journal!
Our bathroom opens to the hall and to the dining room (used to be a den in a past life, thus the weird bath off the DR) so I usually do the dishes or clean the kitchen. I have a four year old, but even when she was a little younger (we've been here since she was almost 2) I've been able to do things in the kitchen or dining room when she's bathing. I fully intended to close that door off when we bought the house, but until she's older, I like being able to see her and still being able to get stuff done...
I play....bought some of those "bath" crayons...so me and my little one (almost 18 mo) draw all over the bathtub and tile. Lately its the only time I have to sit down and draw anything! =)
Drink a glass of wine and start dinner in peace. I love bathtime and so does my 4 yr old. My older son showers himself now, so that's nice too!
