Survey: What Do You Do When You're Done With Stuff?

We happen to be part of a very active, online, local parenting group where kid and baby items are constantly being sold, swapped, traded and given. As your kids outgrow their toys, clothes, furniture, and gear - what do you do with it?

First, I try to give things to friends if they need it. If not - good things I sell on CL/eBay (depends on the stuff), used things, like clothing, I post for free on CL. I do this VERY often!

well, it seems I've been hoarding it in my basement! We don't have a local CL, so I'm biting the bullet and having a garage sale with a neighbor this weekend. It'll be a lot of work (and tears as I sort through all of those newborn clothes!) but I can already see the payoff in extra room. Now that we're finished having kids, I need to be more vigilant on giving things away as they outgrow them.

I've posted on http://freepeats.org, which is a website for posting free, gently used baby items and maternity clothes. Re-Nest had a posting about it in February: http://www.re-nest.com/re-nest/recycling-donating/freepeatsorg-042504.

A combination of all of those options! Craigslist in my area is bloated with kids and baby stuff. Really top-notch items from Silicon Valley folks. I recently saw someone had a Rainbow Systems playgym for sale.

I hate having garage sales...it's such a huge pain in the butt. I consign the baby/kid clothes, donate toys and either trash or donate other junk. We're military so we have to keep our clutter to a minimum because when we move we have a weight limit.

I posted sell on CL, but actually I sell at consignment stores. Bootyland in Seattle is the best!! What's left, I give to Goodwill.

There's no option for "throwing perfectly usable items in the trash." Based on what I see when I walk down my street on trash day, an awful lot of people seem to think this is a responsible thing to do. Gah.
