I answered "other". My husband and I each work four days a week, so each of us is home one day during the work week with our son Sam. We have a babysitter come to our home for the three days a week we're both at work.

I'd love to stay at home full-time, but unfortunately, it's just not an option for us financially. We're pretty happy with this compromise, though.

What's up with the picture?

I am a stay at home mom and my husband is a student. Our son was a (happy) suprise. I worked before and I now still sew a little from home. My husband works as well as being a student.

I answered other. I work full-time from 8 to 4 and my husband works part-time (Thursday night, Saturday and Sunday) and goes to school part-time (Monday and Wednesday night) so he takes care of our 3 month old during the day and I take care of him nights and weekends. My parents are thrilled to take care of him when our jobs overlap.

Hmmm...for some reason the "answer survey" button isn't working for me. I would have chosen that I'm a SAHM, but honestly I'm more of a WAHM. I do watch my son full-time though, only working during naps and at night.

I'm a full-time SAHM of two with a little bit of babysitting every week (6 hours, not including regular date nights)--and an occasional day off when my parents come to spend the day with the kids.

will be a full-time WAHM mom in two weeks! i can't wait! i'm taking on just enough freelancing to do during naps and nighttime and the rest of the time i get to spend with my daughter. it's the best of both worlds.

i would be interested to see how many people would put themselves in this category: work part time from home with no childcare help. thats my situation

I meant to post "other". My husband and I both freelance: I work at home, and my husband works part time at a music studio. Mostly we just juggle and tag -team it (I work when he's home and I stay with the girl when he works) but sometimes we both get too busy and need to hire out.

I work part time from home and my two children spend part time at preschool, daycare, summer camps, gym class, music camp, swim lessons and with their grandparents. Not all at once, of course. It's crazy, it changes from month-to-month in the summer, but the majority of their time is home with me. Boredom is not allowed. This fall, it's gym class, soccer and preschool, with a liberal dose of grandparents, when available.

I noticed no full-time working moms so want to speak for this side. I have two toddler-age children, a husband who works long hours, and I have a full-time 35-hour a week job. We could afford for me not to work (we're not super wealthy by any means but we could manage), but I love my job and honestly gain a lot of intellectual stimulation and self fulfillment from it. I spend mornings with the kids, walk my oldest to preschool in the morning, I sneak out at least once to twice weekly for: doctors appointment, to pick up my daughter from ballet, etc, and am home in time for the evening routine. The keys for me are that I live a 5-minute walk away from where I work and that I do work when the kids are in bed. Also, we have a wonderful nanny who is often more patient and fun with the kids than I am and we have a healthy dose of grandparents around. As Hilary Rodham Clinton was titled, it takes a village and I think that with careful management, having others care for your children is natural and when well chosen a good thing. That being said, if we have a third child, I will want to cut back my hours and if I can't b/c my work won't allow it.....

How come so many people chose "other" instead of option 5 "I (or my spouse) stay at home part-time, use childcare part-time" Doppleganger, auburn2001grad, budino...isn't that what you are describing?

NCB, I can't speak for anyone else, but as an editor, I took the word "or" literally. Since BOTH my spouse and I work part-time, I chose "other". If option 5 had said "and/or", then I would have chosen it. :)

I work part time (nights and weekends) and my husband works full time days, so our daughter is with one of us. We don't use childcare at all (ie: no one outside of our family has ever looked after our daughter).

I'm a freelance web designer who works from home with two kids (and the third on the way) with a bit of childcare thrown in by the teenage girls next door. My husband works full time at a startup company, but he's able to come home at a reasonable hour in the evenings, and he doesn't have to work on the weekends. My two sons go to parent participation preschools (so I spend time in each classroom) and I exchange sitting during my school workdays with other parents at school. Who knows what's going to happen in the new year when #3 (surprise!) comes along...

I stayed at home with our daughter until she was 16 months old and then went back to work fulltime. My husband is in the Army so I had to work to help with expenses...his job before the Army was enough for me to stay home. Our daughter has now been in day care for almost a year and she loves it. She's learned so much and adores her teachers. We're really lucky that she's able to go to a department of defense daycare which is one of the best in the nation.
