Sustainable design comes in all shapes, sizes, prices, and materials. So can you take a guess at what makes this building so very green?

If you guessed straw bale construction, you'd be right!

DeBoer Architects like to focus on employing straw bales only in the walls that will really need their insulation; other walls, where clients hope for windows for instance, are made with a combination of straw and wooden "building boxes." This allows for the best of both worlds: a whole wall full of windows and the insulation perks of straw bales.

For more, check out the information on DeBoer's site about straw bale and bamboo construction.
