Sitting by the window is one of the most relaxing and comfortable places to rest your bones. The warmth of the sun is instantly calming and in that moment there's no better place to be. That's why seating by the window is essential if you've got the space to make it happen.
Window seats are the end-all-be-all of ultimate relaxation but if you haven't got the bones for it in your home, you're not doomed. Find an old bench on Craigslist and give it a fresh coat of paint to liven up your entryway or the space beneath a window in the office.
You can easily create an inexpensive bench using palettes or reclaimed wood — skip the paint when using these materials because they're most beautiful when left bare! If you're lucky and inherited an antique bench from a family member, that's the perfect opportunity to create a sunny seating area.

Shaw's Original Fir...
love that bench in the 2nd-to-last photo!
Anyone know where to find that leafy outline picture on the wall in the first picture? I love it
@alyssa It's a Marimekko fabric.
I LOVE the color yellow in the second picture. The link doesn't give any additional info. Does anyone know what color paint they used?
Why is it that whenever I see string lights in homes posted on AP, they look awesome (in a cute cafe kind of way), but trying it in my own apartment, it ends up looking like a teenager decorated. Is it too untimely for a post on how to use string lights so they don't look like the worst thing ever?
Great spots..love the upholstered ones to sit on with a good book.
Great post
I'd actually like to install one of the window seats in my living room corner (pic 3).
Has anyone had any experience/war stories regarding quoting and specifying one?
I am a little daunted by the prospect price (I'm shugging my shoulders at this - I get the feeling it's not going to be a cheap install for a chunky slab of polished wood).
Also, any ideas on what best to ask for - drawers? lift up bench? media units? bookshelves?
Many thanks for any pointers AP people.
