The idea was to shake up a very conservative, clean cut, organized bachelor's idea of modern contemporary, moving away from the obvious choices, like a shag rug that would've matched the curtains and into the danger zone: the animal skin rug that is a tongue in cheek nod to the classic notion of the swinging bachelor pad. Splashes of accent colour, like the bright orange lounge chair and ottoman liven up the room, giving it a lively happy sense of humour. Think about this when you're decorating your own home and move past the obvious, safe and boring choices. Stepping outside your comfort zone can be the key to a home that is "Ah" instead of "blah".

Love the bright tangerine chair against all the cool and neutral colors!
Have I seen this here before?
At first I did not realize that this was a before and after and was unimpressed.
Then I came to my senses and liked it.
Kiljoy - me too! The makeover is beautiful!
Looks terrific! Great job!
It's amazing what a difference the dark floors make. So much more grounding and sophisticated than the bog-standard light wood.
Great Job!
Where did the cube ottomans come from?
Too many matchy-matchy throw pillows; it's somewhat distracting. I love the new dark floors though.
i love love LOVE those floors!! i also like how they expanded the pass-through between the kitchen and dining area, and added the pendants. and the orange vase on the dining table ties the 2 spaces together nicely.
however, i liked the original placement of the tv better. the fireplace isn't centered on the wall, which wouldn't be noticeable if it weren't for the tv being mounted over it, which also looks off centered.
Love the dark floors! What a change!

Wow, I'm kind of amazed that this is the same apartment. I love that marigold color!
I guess it's a good thing I'm not a swinging bachelor, I much prefer the color scheme before. (Not the furnishings.)
