It's that one little thing (of many) that we still haven't gotten around to. We've been meaning to replace our switch plate covers for a while. Now that we're doing the Fall Cure, we'll finally be taking care of this small task. Although it might not be the sexiest thing in your home, a switch plate cover can make a statement (whether it shouts or whispers). To make your own decoupaged switch plates, check out this how-to from Off Beat Living. To find out about the readymade versions above, click below the jump...

Sarah, I agree with your idea and took it one step further. I replaced all the switches in my home with "Decora" rocker switches. The existing switches were easy to remove and inexpensive to replace, (2 bdrm apt done for about $20). Remember to turn the power off. Most of the sources you mentioned also stock interesting switchplates for Decora switches.
I like the alluminum ones from restoration hardware. I have replaced all the outlets and switches in my home except for the kitchen: these will do great. That and painting or revarnishing doors can improve the crispness of a home tremendously.
Lutron also makes a wide range of colors and styles for both switches, outlets and covers.
Last time I was at my dad's house, I noticed all of his switchplates. The house was built in the 60s, and I think they're original. I asked if he liked them, and he said no… so I asked if I could have them, and he said yes! It's sort of silly to be excited about them like I am, but I want them! Oh yes, I do.
anyone know where i can get Euro (sp. Italian) covers? our light switch and energy plate shapes are different... i am really interested in the anthro mother of pearl inspired one (don't think I can make a DIY one Mother of Pearl one)
Target used to carry beautiful oval and round switch plate covers in chrome - has anyone seen them anywhere else?
