Sylvia's Bright & Sunny Budget Nursery

My Room

Name: Sylvia
Location: Whitehouse, Ohio

We really wanted our first born daughter's room to be bright and sunny and not overly pink and girly (we all know she'll probably go through that "princess" stage anyhow at some point). So being a graphic designer, I was heavily inspired by bright bold patterns and fun typography.

My husband constructed the "H" marquee light out of wood and globe string lights as well as the growth chart and custom changing pad case with a box for diapers and changing items. I custom designed the door sign and several of the posters, while the entrance has baby photos of mom and dad saturated in hot pink and cyan to differentiate who is who.

Everything was done on a budget with the dresser and crib from Wal-Mart and the frames, shelves, and shelf boxes all from IKEA (I handpainted the numbers on the shelf boxes). I also hand-sewed the string mini-pennants, valance, crib skirt, changing pad cover and LOVE pillow, while friends and family sewed, quilted, and crocheted the blankets and crib sheets.

It's such a fun and happy place and our 2-month-old loves the bright colors and bold patterns. You've never seen a baby happier to just lay in her crib or on the carpet and just look around!
