Design:"Symmetry" Media Center
Materials: Walnut and Wenge
"My work begins with a tree. I source my material locally by using trees that were cut and would have otherwise gone to a landfill or burn pile. I want everything that I do to have as little impact on the environment as possible. When designing a piece I try to respect the material above all, and start most of my design with the boards that I want to use for that piece in mind."
VOTING IS NOW CLOSED ON THIS ENTRY

"My philosophy is that a piece is complete when you can remove nothing else from it without affecting its function. Function dictates the design. All of my pieces are built to be used, and still last a lifetime. In a disposable age I want my furniture to be something that you keep and maintain."

I love that woven section. It reminds me of the webbing underneath the seat of well-built old chairs, or the speaker grille on 40s-50s music machines.
Whoa...this is gorgeous. Sleek lines without being cold or nondescript. I hope you'll be posting more of his work here.
Stunning!
The woven panel is insane. I love it!
Stunning. I'd love to know more about the material used in the woven panel. Is it stain resistant? Is it durable?
Regardless, the piece is a showstopper.
Beautiful.
I think it looks gorgeous but I'd like to see a direct shot of it from the front.
I should have mentioned that the top door slides so you can acces all of your media devices via remote. The weave is inspired by traditional danish cord chair weaves. The weave is not stain resistant, but that is a great idea, and I will consider that in the future. Sorry I didn't include any head on shots.
treetheory, the weave is gorgeous, but I always take into consideration the practicality. My mind would jump a few years into the future when the weave might be dirty or worn out. I'd want to know if it could be cleaned or redone. If you weren't available, how would I have it fixed? Anyway, that's how my mind works. This is a gorgeous piece of furniture which looks extremely sturdy and well-made. I'd hate to have to retire it in ten years just because the weave in no longer attractive. Theoretically, it should last for generations.
Creative License, the weave could easily be removed and redone. The wooden frame comes out to hide a subwoofer, and the weave is attach from behind. As for my availibility, I stand behind all of my pieces, and would willingly make any neccessary repairs or improvements.
Thanks! That's great to know. That's exactly what I would look for, whether something could be removed and redone.
This piece makes me want to touch it as well as stare at it. It is a restoration in wood that will last many more years; not in oblivion, but in beauty and functionality.
What a beautiful piece! Fantastic attitude regarding your work too, admirable really, spoken like a true craftsman.
Gorgeous!
The fact that he calls it a media center makes me laugh so hard I can't give any stars. ANd wouldn't anyway. THis is nothing special at all.
Media center.... LMAO.
I only just learned of this contest, and am saddened that I couldn't have given this three stars when the voting was open for it. I LOVE IT! Treetheory, you have made a masterpiece here. Of the fifteen pieces revealed thus far in the competition, this is without hesitation my favorite. I hope you squeak through to the finals, but if you don't, the lack of votes doesn't necessary reflect the popular opinion. Some of us just weren't clued in earlier. This is a far better piece than the lamp that is currently leading!
All that is missing is a glass of scotch and a pack of Lucky Strike, very nice.
