Picnicking goes to a whole new level. With Crate and Barrel's "table in a bag" there's no longer a need to eat on the ground. The thing looks pretty cool - a collapsible, rollable table that assembles at the perfect height for eating while sitting on the grass and stores neatly in a bag for transportation. While we like it, we can't help wondering if part of the charm of a picnic actually comes from eating on the ground. Thoughts?

$39.95 at Crate and Barrel.

Yeah...part of the charm is the sitting on the ground. Although....ants in my potato salad is not charming. So maybe a table would be nice? Hmmm...
I bought one of these last year and I love it. It makes picnic-ing soooo much nicer, and you still get to sit on the ground if you're into sharing with the ants. I think it's much easier to deal with beverages if you have a table. And maybe because I'm in San Francisco, I'm not so into eating off of what is usually cold ground.
I've used it at the beach (it's great because with the sand it stays level--and no sand blowing into your food!), and for camping as an "end table" between chairs sitting around the fire. It's easy to put together and super space-saving. I store it in my trunk along with the other chairs-in-a-bag.
the price is right too.
this was posted on one of the other cities a week or two ago, and i've since bought it on recommendation of other ATers... and i must say, bravo C&B. i was worried it would be too light-weight and would get blown away... but not a problem. this is going to be great for camping and the beach!
If you can wait til the end of the season and are near a C&B outlet, these usually appear. I'm going to buy one next time I see it at the outlet (yes, I'm cheap)!
I actually bought one of these about 4 years back, anticipating using it as my dining table in a teensy nyc apartment. They sold chairs with the set back then, which are comfy, but miserably hard to get out of. as an aside, moved to boston and found a roommate with a normal-sized table.
welcome to boston, laura :)
We love ours too and use it a ton in sunny San Diego. Beverages and cheese boards (steady for the slicing) are so much more enjoyable.
closertotheocean: i've been thinking about buying one myself based on that other post (which was only a week or so ago). thanks for the recommendation. i'll probably order it within the week.
