Q: Hello everyone! I recently purchased this set of four vintage Drexel chairs from Savers for $5 a chair. I am hoping to recover the seats with new white vinyl, as they are a bit marked up. My question is, what table would work best with them? I am currently using a DIY table with Ikea legs but wish to upgrade to something a bit nicer. This table and chairs will live in the kitchen, which has a good sized space for a round, square, or rectangular table. We have a mid-century/vintage look in the house. Any help is appreciated!

Howard Butcher Bloc...
I like the table top you have currently! The legs could be different, but I think the top looks really pretty with those chairs and the lamp. We have a mid century vintage thing going on in our house. I try to mix the pieces from different eras though so things don't get lost in time, or so that prettier pieces stand out more. The chairs alone are great, maybe you don't need a super fancy table, just one that will let the chairs be seen!
I really like the current table. In fact, much more expensive tables like the ones at Room and Board look very similar, just with a thicker and nicer wood top. Consider doing that instead. Use good, sturdy metal legs (either those, if they fit the bill, or new ones) and have a carpenter create a nice hardwood tabletop for you.
ROUND. :)
I agree with everyone else- keep the table! That industrial look of a wood top and metal base is in style right now.
Any table with clean lines would work. If you want vintage, just keep an eye out for Danish Modern tables, otherwise Room and Board has good quality furniture (the Ventura table would look nice with your chairs).
Stay with the one you have! Is it damaged or something? It's got the right lines.
Okay, I'm going to be actually no help..because first I too like your table..if you are wanting better quality then look for something with similiar lines but better made. I also like the idea of a white, round table. Might be a good contrast with the wood of the chairs. Love the chairs by the way! Awesome find!
Echoing the input of others. I love those chairs! Great find and I love the white vinyl.
Nice chairs. Round really works well in a tight space. Also, go for a pedestal base, which makes it easier to pull up more chairs/stools for those times when you have your people over.
I have the same problem - beautiful mid century chairs (whose black vinyl seats also need recovering), and no table. I'm looking for something like this teak table with leaves, because my dining room is fairly small but for the few occasions where I have more people over than usual, we could make it work. My budget is limited, so I'm just scouring craigslist at the moment. I do like the table you have now, though.

I have those exact chairs! We put ours around a warm wood rectangle shaped MCM table with similarly shaped legs as the chairs. I don't think the current table you have looks bad as-is, but I do like the idea of keeping the top and replacing the legs with a more MCM shape to mimic the chairs, or tulip table, always like a tulip table + warm wood chairs.
congratulations on your find!!!! I would also keep the table....but then I'm not very fashionable or chic...
@ 77bpm: We have that table. It's a Danish conference table (ours came from an embassy house in Germany). The legs fit together without screws and the leaf attaches by a clever sliding mechanism. It's all very clever, and...it's a pain in the neck, and unstable. I replaced the legs with some from Ikea, use the main table for the dining room and the extension in the study, and when we have a big party we shove them together and stabilze the legs with zip ties. Zip ties--very modern.
I really love your new chairs, and I feel your pain with searching for the perfect table to complement them. I personally love the tabletop you have, but think the legs are too blocky and clutter the area under the table. I agree with what some others have already said-- get more streamlined legs for the tabletop. Good luck!
$5 per chair!!!!! Lordy, you live right.
stay with your table....polish table top and chrome legs
think not-quite rectangle/very stretched hexagonal, straight legs (current table legs are inappropriate) in matching wood & stand on it to be sure you do not need zip ties; mcm & scand are not well-engineered.
