It's one of those wet, cold New England days when all you want to do is curl up by the fire with a cup of tea and a good book. There's just one glitch: no fireplace. If you love the look of a real fire, but lack the space or cash to install one, consider a portable fireplace.
This comely table top model by Generate Design evokes the form of overlapping logs, but burns ethanol fuel instead of wood. It may not heat the whole room, but it won't produce any smoke or soot either. Best of all, you can take it with you!
The Table Top Fireplace is available from Generate Design for $389. For a different take on the idea, check out the portable fireplace by Electrolux.

Or you can buy the wall mounted kind that burn gel fuel that are bigger, and just as portable from house to house. Overstock has pretty decent prices on them.
Here's one

i think it's very sleek and could look amazing in the right (childless) home but wish it didn't have the slate base. I'm sure there's some reason for the slate but it makes the overall design look a bit clumsy, in my opinion. Otherwise, I would love it on my coffee table or dining table for a twist on dining by candlelight. :)
It is supposed to be reminiscent of a fireplace but it looks cold.
So how would this differ from putting a couple of large candles together? Candles would be a LOT cheaper and probably provide about as much warmth.
i thought they were oversized cigarette lighters
i do like the concept tho
stop the inanity
Oversized lighters.
Ethanol sounds ok, but please please be careful of those "tabletop flame" thingies that burn some sort of gel. They can explode, causing major damage.
