We spotted a link to this perplexing table on the current AT Boston Open Thread. It's a resin encrusted tablecloth made by French artist/designer Sonia Verguet; the tablecloth is rigid enough and apparently sturdy enough to actually BE the table. Perhaps Sonia was inspired by the work of...

Marcel Wanders, who designed the cotton and epoxy cube crochet tables above, available through Unica home for a hefty price.
What do you think of Sonia's tablecloth as table concept, which AT Boston reader, foodinmouth, spotted on Gizmodo? Have you ever tried a project like this? Any how-to tips?

Check out Sonia's blog, Pinkwolf.

My Mum has several tatted Christmas ornaments done sort of like this, except I think hers are stiffened with white glue or a cornstarch mixture or something. As an ornament I think it's quaint, but as a table/cloth I think it's yucky. How would you clean it?
I'd trip on the corners, and cat and bunny fur would cling to the texture -- interesting as sculpture but not remotely practical for my life.
Like it! So smart the way it just sits there amazing us. Clean it with soap and water my dears and then sit and play dominoes or sip some wine. I find it romantic.
I don't need it in my life, but if I did, I'd use an acrylic medium specialized to stiffen fabric such as GAC 400 from Golden http://www.goldenpaints.com/technicaldata/gac100s.php
This is hideous. And I don't want to eat on the floor. My old bones need a chair.
I think this is really neat. However, I think it would be more practical as a decorative end table.
