This week's tablet app roundup focuses upon those of you out there expecting a baby (a few of the Apartment Therapy team included!). After a pregnant friend asked which apps would be useful as an expecting parent, I turned to a tech-loving mom of two for advice. She found three different types of apps useful: those for tracking pregnancy, baby name apps, and apps for baby activity logging in preparation for the new addition's arrival. Here are some of her favorites...
Note: Sadly like with some other tablet app roundups, the pickings are beyond slim in the Android category and I was unable to find a single app in any of these categories that was formatted for Android tablets. All Android inclusions in this roundup are formatted for the phones.
Pregnancy (Sprout): This app is a strong choice in the pregnancy tracking category for iPad toting parents-to-be. In addition to helping parents see 3D models of the fetus development, there's also a weight tracker, kick counter, and contraction timer. iOS. Free, $3.99
My Pregnancy Today by Baby Center: This app was high on Jeannine's (the tech savvy mom) list and is formatted for Android phones and the iPhone. It's a comprehensive pregnancy tracker by the monolith Baby Center which supports 25 million moms around the world. Android & iPhone. Free
Pregnancy Assistant: This app is the highest rated pregnancy tracker in the Windows App Store and is luckily also available for Android phones although the design work leaves a lot to be desired on that platform. Windows 8 & Android. Free
Baby Names!!: This app contains over 30,000 names and their meanings (as well as popularity ranking data). This is another one of Jeannine's picks and with all of this data it's easy to see why. iOS & Android. Free
Baby Namer: Now for something a little different, this Windows 8 app generates a unique name based on the country that you select. The design is clean and it's the most fun looking app I've seen in this category. Windows 8. Free
Baby Connect: A seriously comprehensive baby tracking app and a mom approved choice, this app lets you track everything from medicine, vaccine, and growth and also has various timers and notifications that new parents find helpful. iPad & Android. $4.99
Parenthood: The best baby activity tracker for Windows 8, this app lets you monitor the baby's growth, feeding, and sleeping patterns. Windows 8. Free
Thank you, Jeannine for your help!
Parents, do you have any tablet favourites that parents-to-be would find helpful?

Not an app, but a tablet-friendly website that offers online resources is www.mamaseeds.com. I love that I can take my prenatal fitness classes with me when I travel! The My Pregnancy Today one has such amazing graphics, its really impressive. Now I need to check out some of the parenthood ones... thanks for the list!
I use Total Baby on my iPhone. It follows both of my daughters, and tracks sleeping patterns, nursing and feeding sessions, diaper changes, and includes growth charts and vaccination records. It is comprehensive and intuitive. I used to write everything down after my first...
Our app, LifeTopix, is a great app to manage pregnancy. You can keep track of your appointments, track your symptoms (bloating, nausea, etc.), manage your shopping lists for mom and baby, take notes (health/journal/etc.), manage your photos, organize your finances, and track your health stats. And after the baby arrives, it's still useful for managing your busy life as a new mom!
Another cool app is Sweet Greets Baby, which lets parents of newborns use their iPhones or iPads to create personalized birth announcement photocards that can be shared via email, Facebook and Twitter. Only $0.99 to download, and you can send an unlimited number of birth announcements at no extra charge. Lots of nice card designs, too.

BabyList is an online baby registry that works like Pinterest! Expectant moms can add any item from any store to ONE baby registry! That's big (Amazon) to small (Etsy) and even personal favors, like someone to come walk the dog or make dinner for the first couple weeks.
