Here's a small space storage idea that would take a bit of trust and mindful planning: INV/ALT design attached small, but insanely powerful neodymium magnets to the bottom of Crate&Barrel ceramics while also plugging in receiving magnets into a Target table for some under the table storage. A few more photos under the jump...

Smash! Crash! If the magnet is strong enough to hold the dishware securely in place, then I imagine you'd have to give it quite a yank to remove it. KER-ASH! I am a klutz, and I fear this design.
What's the point? You couldn't sit at the table once it was cleared, because you'd knock everything off with your knees.
This would be a cool idea for under counter storage, but no way would I use it on my table; I can just imagine how much fun it would be hitting everything; tennis el"bowl" anyone? :)
Seriously, use it in the kitchen, but not in the dining room.
funny idea!
I think this is a very cool idea...I bet it gets nabbed and used for under-cabinet storage or something similar. I've seen magnetized salt and pepper shakers that you can keep on your metal door in some super-tiny studio apartment. This is the next step. Imagine if you could free up cabinet space by sticking all your mugs to a hidden side of the fridge? *need.*
