If your kids' exposure to taffy is limited to the neon kind at the drugstore with about ten ingredients you can't pronounce, maybe it's time to host an old fashioned taffy pull.
Cindy of Skip to My Lou gave homemade taffy a whirl at her house. With her usual humor she writes: If you are alarmed by red dye, excessive amounts of sugar and under age workers turn away now!
If you're ready to proceed after her disclaimer, head to Skip to My Lou for Cindy's recipe and tips for making homemade taffy with kids. This looks like a ton of fun for a snowy afternoon playdate, party activity or to make as a gift before a holiday (adjust your flavors and colors accordingly).

Still have great memories of this from when I was about 8. My friends and I quickly figured out that if it was too long to pull and handle, then just take a few bites out of it and you have a much more manageable piece of taffy! YUM!
I love making taffy with kids but haven't done it for years! (since I was a camp counselor!) If you want amazing flavour and colour, look no further than your pantry or local grocery - Kool Aid packs (the kind without sugar added yet) make great colour/flavour enhancers for taffy! Then you can make grape, strawberry, orange, blue raspberry - they turn out great!
