Mixing new and old is nothing new. We have been doing it forever. But I have never seen anything more amazing then the delicious spectacle that is the Murakami Versailles exhibit. Takashi Murakami epitomizes opulence, which is why he usually exhibits in ultra modern/minimalist spaces.
I have to be honest, when I heard that Murakami was to exhibit at Versailles, I thought it a horrible idea. Mixing opulent with opulent was, in my opinion, a recipe for disaster, but I was proved wrong. The exhibit is fresh, breathtaking, and inspiring. Murakami's pieces breathe new life to the already over the top Versailles. This exhibit has inspired me to take more risks while designing my own spaces. As the saying goes: go big, or go home.
The Murakami Versailles exhibit will run 'til the 12th of December-- check it out if you happen to be in the neighborhood.
