Japanese department store Takashimaya plans to close its New York store in June. The store, currently at 693 Fifth Avenue, has had a New York presence since 1958.
While the New York outpost cannot be compared to the Takashimaya Store in Tokyo, I will miss the florist, tea store and gardening departments in New York!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(
Damn! That was my goto spot for elegant gifts.
Oh nooooooo! So sad to see them go. I hope the florist opens up a new shop here.
So sad...back when I was a struggling editorial assistant around the corner at HarperCollins, I'd save up to splurge on a bento box lunch at Takashimaya. They had so many unusual and exquisite little gift items as well.
I remember going to Takashimaya in Tokyo as a kid. I'll have to make a pilgrimage to the New York branch before it closes this summer.
So sorry to see that elegant outpost leave NYC.
I used to love going to Takashimaya NY when I was little...I was probably one of the few 8 year olds that asked their parents for giant concrete spheres covered in moss for christmas, after seeing them at Takashimaya...I never got those balls....:( hehe
I moved from NYC to Chicago 4 years ago and I still miss Takashimaya. It was one of my all time favorite stores and I'm shocked it's closing.
This is such sad news :(
