Take an Old Torchiere From Mean to Green

We love projects that take not terribly good looking or energy efficient tech and turn it into something that not only looks much better, but is also green. This project found in one of our favorite sources, ReadyMade, shows how to take an old halogen torchiere and turn it into a fun and unique CFL lamp.

Learn to turn your old torchiere like the one shown above into a stylish and green lighting fixture courtesy of ReadyMade. The project takes about one day to complete and is rated by ReadyMade as Hard project.

To make this project you will need: 2 salvaged torchiere lamps, 4 sockets, electrical wire, electrical tape, 3 4" threaded nipples, 2-part clear epoxy, paint (optional), 1 giant globe, 3 white globes with necks, 3 lock washers, and 4 compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFLs).

The tools needed for this project are: a screwdriver, wire cutters and strippers, power drill, tap, and paintbrush (optional).

Check out the project on ReadyMade for the complete instructions.
