Most commonly seen in entryways and behind sofas, they’re great for arranging lovely vignettes of accessories and books on, as well as being a landing pad for mail and keys upon entering. But we’ve also seen console tables used as streamlined laptop tables, as accent tables and more. And a lot of the styles out there have great lines that look good in — whether in front of white walls, bright walls and wallpapered walls. How do you use a console table, if you have one?

Sprout Side Table
A DIY-er might repurpose an old aquarium stand into one since they're built sturdily.
There was a genius idea featured on this website a while ago, about skinny legs you can attach to any kind of plank. Please, anyone saved the link ? I desperately need a coffee table, and I just salvaged some wood !
@Loora,
Could these be the legs? http://hairpinlegs.com/index.php
Has anyone ever come accross a super long console that is at least 85"?
No, but what about putting two identical ones side by side?
@LittleMiss: Have you considered doing an ikea hack with their wood counter tops? You could probably get something pretty classy for not very much. They sell the counter tops in lengths of up to 96in. And since its probably twice as deep than you would need you could cut it in half, and half two shelves. The trick would be finding legs you like.
@LittleMiss I can think of a couple of options for an 85" table
1. Crate and Barrel has a long console table. Not exactly my style but it could work for your space.

2. Use 2 shorter tables side by side to give the illusion of a longer table. The picture in this link has an example of using two Room and Board consoles side by side.

3. Go custom and have someone make one for you
I would do #2 because an 85 inch table isn't very flexible and two pieces can be separated and moved or repositioned in the future.
I love the acrylic one from CB2 but I just can't force myself to buy something I know is going to be scratched very soon.
@LittleMiss: If you like white or red and don't mind it being only 83in then you can use this: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60196481#/60196481/
Has anyone seen any shorter (30" wide) but still nice and narrow and sleek consoles??
If it could have a small drawer that would be even better.
@javagirl, IKEA's Malm occasional table is almost long enough at 83".
This one at West Elm isn't exactly skinny, but with the depth of only 10 inches, it is definitely worth considering. http://www.westelm.com/products/rustic-acacia-console-f997/?pkey=ccoffee-side-tables
You could always have one custom built for you. There are a few reclaimed wood companies in town that could do something like that - check out districtmillworks.com, arborla.com or crofthouse.com.
Thank you so much Javagirl1972 ! I bookmarked them this time !
Yay! Don't you love it when you find what you are looking for?
Also, many folks don't realize how many rooms a Sofa Table can be used in and actually be functional.
Nice link. http://hairpinlegs.com/index.php
Belated thanks javagirl.
