Tame the Beasties: Friendly Monsters

Monsters have taken on a much more prominent role with our kids than they did when we were little. A more positive role, in fact. With movies like Monsters, Inc., and great books like Mo Willems' Leonardo the Terrible Monster, there are so many ways to show kids that monsters can be friendly. It's like we're telling them that monsters come in all shapes, sizes and personalities — just like people.

We are a very monster-friendly household. Partially because I've designed many monsters as a toy deisgner, including Mrax. I have a soft spot for something that is pure imagination: a monster can be absolutely anything you want it to be. Here are a few of my favorite monster toys:
