Name: Tara & Ryan
Location: Hudson Valley – Stone Ridge, New York
We bought this weekend place 4 years ago and little by little (with the help of my DIY dad) transformed it from what it had become — a ticky-tacky aluminium covered 50s granny home, back into the 20s bungalow it was meant to be.
We included a before and after of exterior.
I would say our style is Swedish industrial ruralist??. We LOVE found objects, and have had a ball up here yard saling and antiquing.
We recently turned the upstairs from an attic to a master suite and continue to make the place our home away from home.
Thanks Tara & Ryan!

That first image is pure beauty. It takes a real talent to create something so relaxed yet elegant.
Hats off to you.
The exterior makeover is beyond words! Fantastic work. Also loving your dining room, beautiful industrial pieces in a warm inviting setting.
your landscaping is sooo amazing and i don't think i have ever even NOTICED landscaping before. the whole thing: seriously good.
Seriously great job on changing the exterior. Now you have a front porch as god intended it.
Wonderful job. The house breathes a sigh of relief, I'm sure!
May we have a full house tour on this house? Please?
Oh, well done! I second the request for a full house tour.
Yes, full house tour please!!! This is lovely...I could live here year 'round, of course...
Beautiful peek. I'd love to see a full house tour too.

The house just GLOWS!
My favorite bit is the home's nest of billowing perrenials and shrubs in the "after" photo. That changed everything.
Wow, you did an amazing job with that exterior! Might be nice to add some chunkier bungalow columns on the porch someday. First photo reminds me of the book Modern Rustic.
really, one of the best exterior transformations i have ever seen. so simple and humble...you truly got this home back to it's roots, without succumbing to any pseudo vintage design-y stuff
The exterior makeover is really impressive, but the interiors are rather spartan.
I could hang out on that "new" porch all day. Well done.
Very impressive exterior make-over. That alone takes quite a committment of time and money and I should know given the extensive work we've done at our place. Wish more people were inspired to do the same. Hat's off to you for a job well done!
May we have a full house tour on this house? Please? Please!
Yes! House tour, please!
Agreed! Post more pics!
What absolutely stunning results on the exterior -- gorgeous!
Very inspiring. I'm wondering how difficult it was to convert the enclosed porch back to its original state? There are so many adorable bungalows out there that have been disfigured by ugly enclosed porches.
I, too, would like to see a full tour!
lovely, inside and out
Nice job on the renovation. Consider painting the porch columns, soffit, porch floor and steps a contrasting color to show off the porch detail.
Great transformation. Could you tell us the color(s) of the wall and trim paint used in the interior room w/ bed (first photo)? Thanks!
Hello. Just logged on to AT and was so pleasantly surprised to see our home and such kind comments. Sorry for the delay in responding, thought we'd be notified if we were to be featured.
Anyway to respond to a few comments . . .
- The exterior color is BM Shark Skin. It's an incredible always changing greeny gray depending on the light. The house is set on a knoll, so we thought this color would nicely ground it to the property.
- The interior colors are: Walls - BM White Dove and trim/doors: BM - November Rain. Love it so much I use it in the city too. Just flipped.
- The porch conversion simply took sweat. Nothing complicated. We had to remove the louvered windows, door, walls, linoleum floors, and acoustic ceiling tiles. The clapboard walls and beaded board ceiling was in pristine condition thanks to its aluminum blanket. The worst bit was jackhammering the hideous maroon cement stairs. Not fun.
- The landscaping was my favorite part. Incredibly therapeutic and rewarding. Just read some books on NE perennials, sketched a rough plan and planted away. They say first year sleep, second year creep, third year leap - so I'm looking forward to seeing what this summer brings.
And I'd love to do a full house tour, AT?

Yes! I would say house tour!! LOVE this. Thanks!! or if you have a personal blog with the tour we would love that too! ;)
Beautiful! I love the updated exterior. I, too, would love to see a full house tour, and to know what you have growing in your front yard.
Russian sage, baptisia (false indigo), some sedums, iris, beautyberry, snakeroot, japanese maple. I played with the contrasting foliage - of light green and deep purple.
omg that after exterior is DREAAAAMY ! <3
Dear Tara,
I'm a freelance photographer interested in building a portfolio of great interiors. Would you mind if I shot the white room and dining room sometime?
Thanks!
