Designed by Achille Castiglioni in 1988, it's the followup to his 1960 Taraxacum S2. While we're having fun looking at this beautiful fixture, we wouldn't want to own it: it would put off a lot of heat, use a lot of electricity, and it's priced way over our heads anyway: $4500 at Design Within Reach.

I think it is idea for New Years eve. You could mount it on a pole on top of the house or apartment building and lower it at midnight.
The Taraxacum S2 is my all-time favorite light fixture!
Would it be as cool with CFLs? Even then, that's still a lotsa wattage. Probably double my entire carbon footprint.
