Target's Linear Floor Lamp

Nice floor lamps can be expensive. That's why we jumped when we saw the Linear Floor Lamp at Target...

The super-modern design is composed of a silk shade stretched across a metal armature. The result is a glowing, minimalist form. Has an on/off floor switch and requires four 60-watt bulbs. And, the 59"-high lamp is yours for $280.

i like the lamp, and i don't mean to sound rude, but there is NO WAY i'm paying 280for anything from Target.

Target online sells many higher quality lines of furnishings. I have purchased this lamp and love it.

Spending $300 at Target seems silly. I know this isn't a floor lamp, but if you're looking for a tall presence in lighting and are willing to spend $300, why not go for the Falkland? It comes in a floor model as well, for $600.

good to know, oklagirl, but my deal is that it is hit or miss with stores like target in regard to quality. i don't have 300 to waste on something that may or may not fall apart in a month. You know?

It doesn't look much different to me than those long paper lantern lamp thingys you can get in Chinatown for a whole lot less than $280.

There seems to be no winning here, sometimes... if it's CHEAP from Target, complaints and suspicions about quality.

If it's not-so-cheap from a discount-driven retailer (Target, Ikea, etc.), then cries of "no way I'd drop THAT kind of cash, here!" abound.

PS, visuallingual, this comes in a floor lamp for $280... how exactly is that a fair comparison to $600, for a lamp that shares *some* similarities but is a really different vibe from the understated simplicity of this Target version?

Patrick, I was comparing the Target lamp to the Falkland model to which I linked, based on price and height. Of course they're not the same, but I immediately thought of the Falkland when I saw this post. I think this lamp is nice but, if I were looking to spend $300, I just don't think it would be on this lamp.

It's funny because I thought of the Falkland lamp too when I first read the post - for $300 you can get a design classic or a mediocre Target lamp that will probably not appreciate with time.

I know it is a different type of lamp and maybe a person really needs a floor lamp instead of a suspended lamp, but if I were the one buying a lamp today and had $300 to spend, it would be the Falkland hands down (I've been looking at them lately...)

Apples and oranges as far as I am concerned, manufacturer or retailer notwithstanding.

Visually, I prefer the Target lamp.

Ikea soooooooooo has floor lamps like this covered for around 10% the price Target (not DWR, mind you) is asking for similar items.

THIS lamp is expensive.

Looking at it, I thought it would be $50...almost $300!! I bet I could find a way nicer lamp for that price, or maybe a similar lamp for cheaper.
