I prefer lots of different lighting, some with dimmers, for different activities. As a person ages, lighting that was adequate for reading becomes insufficient, similar to how distinguishing navy from black becomes increasingly difficult. Greatly increasing the lighting can let an older person continue to enjoy reading at home without eye strain.
Ha, I just bought a new lamp on Etsy and both the fourth and fifth ones were in my top three. I ended up with a silver lamp, though.
