- What I Love About My Small Home:
- Living lightly! You can only have so much in a small space, you realize what's necessary and what isn't. It's also quick to clean. But the best feature is the high ceiling -- it allows me to store vertically and makes the rooms feel bigger.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- Storage is extremely important, and finding furniture to fit in the space the floor plan allocates without major remodeling was one of my biggest challenges. Most of my furniture was bought on a budget from Ikea and Target. But some pieces were worth the splurge. The love seat is a vintage piece, and I have a small cabinet from West Elm that was the only thing I could find to place next to my entry. Decorating with a seller's mentally is also difficult. I try to have my own style, but always keep in mind that this is a temporary home and I don't want to scare future buyers away with anything too funky.

BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
love it- clean lines with just enough color
I've never seen a sink configuration like that before. Great use of space in a small kitchen. Love the tiled backsplash!
I love the blue/black/white theme you have going in the main room. Your pictures of the Buddha really help tie it all together!
This once again reminds me how important good layout is to making a small space feel expansive. So many large homes don't have half the layout firepower this little place does.
great job!! i want your sink! i also love that desk - where did you get it?
Wow.. i love your sink!!!! you were able to create such big use of space in such small square footage. love it!
Zen vibe to it, no doubt. But the rug and pillow cases seem a little misplaced and makes the room look even smaller than it is.
Workplace looks productive. Like the contemporary furniture.
Well thought kitchen. L sink is clever use of space. A corner caddy to collect plastic bags. I noticed you got chemex coffee beaker.
Funtional promise of Zen.
Love the kitchen. Very cute tiles. Not a fan of the blue paint though.
Thanks everyone. It was extremely hard to capture the apartment in 5 pictures. I have a few more pieces of art and clocks/lighting that make it interesting but the narrow rooms were quite a challenge without a fisheye.
@ Kathykris, totally agree! The blue isn't quiet as bright in real life!
The sink is from IKEA but I don't think they sell it anymore. It was almost impossible to find a faucet that reached into the sink without splashing all over the edges, which is probably why IKEA discontinued it. The kitchen is under remodeling still. We just did the tiles and we are missing another shelf and some fixtures. :) Baby steps!
Thanks for all you comments! MADHU105, I'm a work in progress to Zen!
@ jamie1024 Jamie, I bought the desk at Crate and Barrel, it's one of their classic pieces. I've seen similar ones on Target.com but the Crate and Barrel one is better quality wood.
Awesome. I don't think I've seen such a well-laid out teeny-tiny before. And everything is in the right proportions.
Where is the dining table from?
Interesting, love the artwork. Bet the stove doesn't get a lot of action! Could probably better utilize that space.
Very nice. Where did you get the tile from in the kitchen?
I love the colors and how you utilized your space. Job well done!!!!
Clean-lined, sophisticated femme space with lots of nice allusions.
I love this one. I think it is my favorite so far--very good use of space, cozy but clean. Great job!
Blows my mind!
You managed to get so much in that teeny space without it seeming cramped. And you used color, too. Good job.
Love your sink in the kitchen. Love the kitchen!
It is beautiful! Love the color scheme and picture of Marilyn hanging in the dining room. Perfect mix of clean lines, pops of color and glamour!
Must have the Buddha pictures NOW! Very nice space. Where did you purchase the B+W Buddha pictures?
awesome! love it !
wonderful, i love it.
@ Fair Phyllis The dining "room" table is from Ikea. I bought one of their butcher block counter tops and added some legs to it.
@ Tasha Jovel I brought the Buddha paintings back from a work trip to China. But if there's one thing China does well is export. I'm sure if you go to a local China town you will be able to find something similar.
@ PurpleCharm I bought the tiles online at http://www.glasstilestore.com/
Thanks again for all the comments and votes!
Very impressive. Great use of space and angles.
Great Taste - Bring it over to the UK
I recognize and love that stove! It looks high end, but it's perfectly small for the space. Does it work well? I've been thinking about getting that exact same model.
Hi @Calldoctorison! It's the Avanti 20" model. It works very well, I've had it for 4 years. The oven is amazing because it's so small, stuff is ready in no time. But I will warn you, it's tiny. When I first bought it I went to Target to get a cookie tray and when I came home I discovered it was too big for my oven. You will need smaller size trays and cake molds. When I returned the cookie tray the girl a Target cracked up when I told her the reason.
Wow - amazing use of colors and space
Thanks Tatiana, for the stove info! I already have a 20-inch range (although it's not nearly as nice as the Avanti) and my cookie sheet just baaaarely fits inside.
This apartment makes me angry, because my own studio has the same square footage but yours is laid out SO MUCH BETTER. Seriously, I think this might be the best use of 300 square feet I have ever seen. Nice job!!
Love the stove....
Great space! Do you ever have touble lighting the Avanti overn? I've had the same one for 4 years and still haven't figured out how to ignite the thing. It seems to light then turns off as soon as i let go of the knob. I'm thinking about replacing it with one that has a regular automatic lighting system.
Cobalt77, The only reason I knew how to turn the oven on is because in my previous apartment the owner had instructions on a similar small stove and the method for lighting was the same. It's only hard till you figure it out! Press the knob, you should hear the starter clicking. Keep the knob pressed and clicking and slowly turn the knob and you'll hear and see the flames start. Still pressed move it up to about 200-300 and hold it for a few more seconds and the let it go, it should be on. If it doesn't work the first time you may have to fan a little air into the oven. Since it's so little it uses up all the oxygen very quickly and you won't get a flame the next time. Good luck. Let me know how it goes.
the kitchen the kitchen the kitchen
Tatiana, what's the name-number, brand, of the paint?
You did an amazing job, congratulations!
