Name: Taylor (1 month)
Location: Chicago, IL
Taylor's nursery was created with the initial idea of a castle that's suited for my "princess," I wanted to create a castle that was flattering and would compliment my modern décor.
At 7 months pregnant, as I set out to design Taylor's castle, I needed my T-square ruler, pencil and tape to start the outline. Taping and painting took the longest, because I needed to paint each layer separately and waited a day for it to dry but what a beauty when it was all done. I chose pastel colors in pink, orange and yellow because I knew it was going to counterbalance the gray on the surrounding walls.
I looked all over for the perfect rug that will lend a hand to my castle theme. I came across this Union Jack rug while browsing on Gilt.com. I knew this was it. Received the rug and absolutely love it, I would love to purchase another.

What a darling graphic on the wall. Your efforts are well worth it. The gray really emphasizes those pastels.
I would like to leave a nicer comment, but something about this room hurts my eye. It might be the rug, but I'm not sure--something is just off.
I think it's an awesome room! Great job.
What's your source for that fantastic pendant?
It's an interesting design and i like the contrasting color choice, but this definitely does not read castle to me at all. School, church, or barn, maybe, but there's nothing that says "castle."
Hi, thank you for your comment...the pendant lamp can be found at Land of Nod.
When you're 7+ months pregnant, this is all I can create but I definitely can see why you would think a school, even possibly a church but this is my idea of a contemporary castle. Thanks for your comment.
The rug is not as loud or bright as it appears in the picture. I think the pink pendant light may have lend a color change...but thanks for your comment. It's a fabulous rug and hard to find a Union Jack rug in pink and orange.
I'm really glad you like it. Yes the gray definitely did the job.
Adorable. We're painting our 5 year old's room a gray very similar to this and doing orange and pink accents, too. Love the painted graphic and the cute safari sheets. :)
It's graphic and lovely. I'm sure it'll be a topic of conversation for years to come!
Thank you!! I'm already planning her next room decor when she turns 3 ... Chalk board wall.
Those colors screams girly!! I love it. Thank you, I think all the colors came together nicely. Sheets & bed skirt came from land of nod.
What a fun idea, so very modern. Id love to do something similar but extend the shapes to fill the whole wall and feel like im looking through a giant kaleidoscope
