We like taking inspiration from teenage bedrooms because they tend to feature an intensely concentrated mix of personal choices. While the new bedding collection isn't exactly our vibe, we love what Tori Mellott did with it in the context of the space.
Teen Vogue participated in the launch of a new bedding line at JCPenney by redecorating the bedrooms of three lucky teen readers. For Paola Henriquez, whose space is featured in these pictures, Mellott used lots of Paola's favorite color - pink, but kept the room from feeling too girly with bold pops of neon and ultramodern accessories. AGH! I would have died for that when I was a teenager.
Is it very sad that I am a teen twice over and these are the colors in my house? (Not *quite so much of them.)
You might want to think about putting a good desk in a teen's room. Seriously. This one is cool, but it's cluttered and it's tiny. I'm not even talking about the visual clutter that hangs over it.
Is it stylish ? Oh, yes.
Is it realistic ? Not so much.
A cluttered desk in a teenager's room isn't realistic? Ha!
Ew. I would have been in my own personal Hell if that was my room as a teen. Too much junk....
If I wasn't married I'd love to girl-out and have this much pink in my bedroom! I would have killed for a room like this as a teenager! Love it.
I wouldn't exactly say the Parsons desk is small...
Where is the storage? The clutter was really a problem for me as a teen (and I still struggle with it), and sometimes you just need to close the cabinet doors or sweep all the bureau-top clutter into a drawer.
augh! I wish I had this room too! My old room was the "spare" room with my mum's old bed that was squeaky and hard as a board. Instead of bedding I had a torn sleeping bag with the pins still in it (ow!). My desk was a free water-logged old particle board thing with no drawers and we had to drill a giant screw threw the top to keep it from falling apart. I had a radio instead of a cd player and even the magazine cutouts on my wall were donated to me by a friend who didn't want them anymore.
I actually kind of want that lamp. I have an ugly thrift store lamp painted brass coloured... think I could plaster it up?
I know a lot of teenaged girls (I have a cute teenaged son) and not one of them would have a room like this. Too Little girl-ish.
I really like this, and I usually hate pink.
The comforter looks like Isaac Mizrahi's Pop Flower Bedding from a few years ago.
I love the bedding.
Where is the pillow in the chevron basket from (picture #3)? Need it.
If you follow the link to the original story you'll see that the winner of this room is a freshman, so she's what, 14? Not 18, there's a big difference. And she absolutely loves it and said if there was a fridge in there she'd never leave it. I think it's wonderful. I had a hand-me-down stereo and a radio station poster on the wall when I was a kid. This is just what that girl wanted...
I can't help but admire the random bright color splashes throughout the room. Reminds me of my room as a teenager...Love it!
