Tired of her pink room, my then thirteen-year-old daughter asked me to get rid of it and instead to incorporate her newly favorite color - navy blue!
Well, besides working with a color I thought was difficult, she also asked me for a window seat, polka dots, and a desk area with lots of storage. She got the room with all her requests, and I got a happy teenager with lots of ways to stay organized.

I love how sophisticated this room looks but she still has her American Girl doll - so cute! The room seems totally appropriate for 13 and will evolve with her as she grows up. The only problem is that there will be nothing to look back on and groan about...

This is a great example of having an idea without overenforcing it until you've hammered it into the ground. Yes, she got her navy blue and her dots (randomly spaced dots aren't really "polka" dots), but they didn't go out and buy every single thing with navy or dots on it. It would have been so easy to hit people over the head with the theme. As it is, this looks quite sophisticated and balanced -- the objects seem to have naturally aggregated together out of mutual affinity instead of being corralled because they match the theme.

What a great example of practical elegance. Hands down the best teen girls room I have ever seen. Every detail is thought out and executed perfectly. I love how everything that is near and dear to this teen is given the place to be admired and used. A true inspiration for what every girl would love!
